Golf Australia have announced that Pennant in Victoria has been cancelled after three (3) rounds. In a competition that is obviously played outdoors what do you all think of this decision .

It lacks logic, but irreversible now.

I don't understand the golf cancellations

Cancel spectators and practice personal distancing for players and volunteers and officials

But once the PGA did it it becomes hard for anyone else

Sadly we have also cancelled country pennant.

even after a majority of clubs agreeing to play and working together trying to play with restrictions such as no hand shaking, no social afterward, playing in groups of 2.

and playing outdoor in sun and fresh air, both of which are good for your bodies immune system.

decision: No we have to cancel. we have a duty of care to our other players.

Some clubs I believe have already banned guests for playing.

For the moment Golf is still allowed to be played at club level...................(lucky our premier plays golf)

Golf Australia has sent us a memo suggesting that country Vets games be cancelled.

The primary reason was to reduce inter- town travel for non essential reasons , thereby slowing the spread of the virus. The idea has holes in its logic, but as Bogey Golfer stated it is hard now that we have received guidance from the governing body.

The holes ? Deliver truck drivers, freight drivers that live here and return nightly, people who have travelled to Melbourne recently ( me) are all possible carriers of the virus to outlying communities.

When we see road blocks preventing travel the situation will be dire. Too late of course for road blocks to be 100 % effective.

I'm aware of several clubs who have banned visitors, and one club has banned the use of rakes - players are to smooth bunkers with their feet. If you get a bad lie in a bunker you can pick up and replace your ball. Players are also to mark their own card

GA have authorised a number of temporary local rules which clubs may adopt.

These include no rakes, mentioned above, preferred lies in bunkers, flags to be left in at all times, or no flags at all, hole liners upside down & extending above the surface - if your ball hits it, it is 'holed'.

Others: mark your own score card, not touched or signed by marker; if electronic scoring available, no need to submit the card.

WOW !!

No non essential activities will now mean clubs have no choice but to close. Surely the police aren't going to start arresting people for jumping on the tee of their home club.

So the pm’s address makes interest reading.  Is a pro shop a retail convenience store?

the bar closed, cafe could do takeaway.

everything else is maintain social distancing,

let’s see what comrade dan says in the morning,

PM made reference tonight to indoor sporting facilities being closed. That would mean that the golfing part of golf courses may remain open, subject to everybody keeping their distance. But the bar, restaurant and pokies are shut. The restaurant can provide take-away meals.

It will be interesting to see how that is handled.

Maybe if clubs close bar and do take away food, this could work at club level

no reason to not keep course open.

Premier Dan also plays golf so he is going to need something to do over next few weeks or he will go crazy as well.

the bar might close but no reason other than wages why a golf course could not stay open , as it  out door activities same as fishing, and hiking. we could keep 9 holes open, thus reducing maintenance costs. ground staff could go on rotating rosters.

Clubs can / could make it work

however we all await the direction from Golf Australia.(we are sadly already reading their thoughts)

looks like fishing for a few weeks, surely fishing in a boat on Westernport is social distancing.

I think Dan Andrews has more important things to be on top of than his golf game at the moment. My understanding is that he plays 9 holes rarely anyway. Social/spacial distancing does not mean businesses that are not public facing (ie retail) are not still operating. Especially him and his team. He will be working 16 hour days for the foreseeable future

So you'd prefer that your community doesn't get any external supplies ?

Why we aren't regularly checking the heath status of all essential workers is a farce.

Thank Christ you've got nothing to do with our current future and some of the important decisions being made by the leaders of our state and country.

If so we'd be royally stuffed and the loss of life could be catastrophic !

Why not testing essential workers?

1) insufficient test kits available at this time.

2) it would overload lab capacity and possibly results would  be close to 100% negative, thereby creating a bottle neck in the diagnosis of those with symptoms for little practical benefit.

Your comment on Littlemans' posting seemed a little harsh, or did I miss something? Was it the disrespect for the Premier?
