Don’t laugh but a friend of mine ( really ) has the yips and has been bending down and holding the putter head whilst putting. Do you think it’s legal? I can’t find that it’s not. He stands with his feet still to one side, does not anchor the club anywhere and he strokes the ball doesn’t push it.
Thoughts?

He strikes the ball with the head of the club, has both feet on the same side of his line of putt and doesn't anchor.
They are the only restrictions.

So you're saying that he can't step on or over the line of his putt ?

Not while he's putting.
But you know that.

I am now following this thread with great interest.

I wonder if Old Bogey will take up the offer.

I also wonder what he will buy with the money, probably jam.

Isn’t it this, 10.1c

c
Making Stroke While Standing Across or on Line of Play

The player must not make a stroke from a stance with a foot deliberately placed on each side of, or with either foot deliberately touching, the line of play or an extension of that line behind the ball.

For this Rule only, the line of play does not include a reasonable distance on either side.

Exception – There Is No Penalty If Stance Is Taken Accidentally or to Avoid Another Player’s Line of Play.

The bet was never going to happen anyway.
I'm sure it will be a case of us simply not understanding what one of them meant and that everyone else was wrong and it's someone else's fault.

It's ironic because both of them putt "side saddle"

Pity I didn't see GG's offer, I would've cleaned up. But I'm just a poor pensioner and don't bet anyway.

And that's the exception that wins me the money :)

You are allowed to step on or over the line in avoiding another players line !

It's ironic because both of them putt "side saddle"

It doesn't matter how you putt, it's where you put your feet that is the question...

Same for the freaky left handers.

The exception is irrelevant to the original question where it was mentioned that he stands with his feet to the side. It was asked if that, and how he holds the club, was legal.

I was fully aware of the exception and wouldn't have paid out on that anyway.
