So am thinking of picking up a rangefinder, but the best rated brands are about twice the price of the cheapos. I probably won't be able to swing it if I am going to have to shell out for a Bushnell or similar. There are some cheaper brands available and just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Callaway, Sureshot or Callaway brands for rangefinders?

I picked up a Sureshot with prize$$ from pro-shop - works fine, but I rarely use it over the Garmin GPS.
“I will put my b***s in your mouth. And I will give you some money to make you feel good.”
Just Counting my money. “I don’t care about that match point—would you care if you were 23 and worth over $10 million?”
Nothing is my fault!

I've got an el cheapo I bought 2nd hand for about $60 or $80, seems to work fine for me. Have heard good things about the Precision Pro units from Golf Clearance as well

Couple of mates use the Sureshots and they do the job.
Compared to my Bushnell Pro the distances are always different but always withing 2 metres. That's not saying that they are wrong - my Bushnell might be wrong for all I know. But they are consistently within 1 to 2 metres of each other every time so I would say on an accuracy level they are comparable.
In terms of longevity though, I've had mine for over 5 years now and its still going strong with no sign of any issues or wear. My mates Sureshot though, after 2 years is almost unreadable as the graphics on the display have all but disappeared.
Thats just anecdotal though - others might have different experiences.
When it was new though, it worked fine with the only noticeable difference besides the distance variations being the view finder wasn't quite as clear as the Bushnell.

Just bought Boblov rangefinder on eBay. New. About $110. Compared to my previous $400 Leupold rangefinder, I prefer the Boblov.

This is because you have talent instead of flair and style. I need the fluoro to divert attention from the lack of talent.

The difference between the high end ones like Bushnell and Nikon is the stability and ease with which they acquire the target, also they find the target easier over much longer distances. Stability is an issue for older golfers I guess.
