Yes its the way to turn the place around - a 'loss leader' approach. Get the bums on seats and over time return the rates to a sustainable level. Good to have an owner with the wherewithal to do that.

I'm thinking with Gardiners at a similar level, the likelihood of it going up in any significant way is unlikely. The club have committed to the current rate until 2021.

yep thats reasonable, although you'd think maybe you could charge a touch more for the 27 instead of 18. It's still weird having 72 holes all next door to each other like that.

Have The Walnuts Plantation made any difference to the financial solvency of Yering?
probably the marijuana plantation hidden just out of eyesight behind the walnuts is a bigger help to the bottom line.

I don’t think $1900 is a lot of money to find? And it can be paid monthly.
It's about the same cost as Gardiners. Significantly less than Eastern. It's about on par with what I used to pay at the Frog...a public course with 18 holes and no clubhouse facility.
I think the masses will be just fine.
Sorry to say Gouldy but I believe the deals that have been recently arranged in the background for the privileged are way more attractive for the invitees than you can imagine !
The original business model re joining fees at YM was nothing to pay until July-August 2012, then everybody please stump up $2k !
So many members that joined before that date and had years of only paying a yearly subscription, resigned overnight. Most via an email to the GM of the day.
About 60% quit from memory and then the problems began.
I suspect with the current mob and the deals done for them, it could be a very similar big loss coming down the track and most likely sooner than later !

Nah.
I think the 2012 scenario is so far removed from now that it ill behooves you to even bring it up.
Let’s see where the place is in 12 months time, and if I’m wrong, I’ll concede your points. But I don’t think that will happen.

J, the course is always reasonable during the summer months. When the cooler weather hits you will quickly notice the 3 types of grasses that take over. The Poanna winter grasses that dominate are very hard to control in the wetter, cooler season. This makes the course and especially the greens not a lot of fun to play for at least 7 or 8 months of the year. Until they fix the plural strains of grasses on their property I'm not a big fan of the conditions at GA !
Thanks, Jon,
I might give Kew a visit and see the difference for myself. Relatively speaking, the cost difference isn't a huge amount over time so the extra investment may be worth it.
Regards
