I was supposed to do my trial round today but I had to postpone due to rain. So will try out the course this Sunday. I am going for full 7 days membership. Introductory offer excludes Wednesday and Saturday. With a new born around I need flexibilty and ability to choose which days I can play on the weekend. But if I didn't have a baby I would have gone for introductory.

Okay... Honeymoon period is over. I am sick of the swarm of flies at Eastern Golf. I am back out in the market to join membership elsewhere once my membership expires.

Any suggestions?

The course is nice. It's the flies...

And it is getting a bit boring. Hit as far as you can then hit the green.

I am sure it will be nice in a few years but the FLIES!!!!

I suppose Gardiners Run and Yering Meadows are a bit close to EGC to not have the same issue....probably the same flies???

Yes, I hear they are having similar issues but not as bad as EGC. Currently flirting with Heritage and will try out the course in a couple weeks.

Also looking at Yarrambat and potentially Heidelberg might come back in to the radar...

Not  sure  about Yarrambat after you've played at EGC.   Pretty basic IMHO......just depends on your standards I guess.   Goldy will  be able to give you a better opinion as I haven't been there for a few years

Kew GC is the go, regardless of your first impressions.

Investigate fully and you'll thank me later.

That's a tough call, he's got a long way to go to catch up to RN and TB with the " how many clubs can I go thru " in a 5 year period.

Jon...

Yarrambat is not worth it IMO and I have been a member at both that you mention above. They are both around the same price point and would pick Heidelberg every day of the week.

Yarrambat at around $1300 p.a. and Heidelberg just under $3k...they're not close on price.

Or quality...Heidelberg does crap all over Yarrambat. But price wise they're in a different league as well.

Winner Moonah Legends 2013 ISG Nationals | Winner The National 2013 ISG Nationals | Winner 4BBB 2013 ISG Nationals
Winner Stink's 3 Club Challenge 2015 | Winner C grade OOM The Sands 2016

Hole-in-one Growling Frog 14/1/17 5th hole 137m TM RBZ 5 hybrid, Srixon AD333 ball | Growling Frog GC Matchplay Champion 2017

Winner B grade OOM Curlewis 2018

Other, less impressive stuff...(I know...it's marginal...)
R/Up ISG Nationals 2013 | C Grade LD Growling Frog 8/2/14, 11th hole, TM R1, HOF Patriot shaft, testicles of steel | NTP 2nd hole Kooindah Waters 2014 ISG Nationals

3 Birdies in one round The Glades 2015 ISG Nationals | R/Up 4BBB 2015 ISG Nationals | NTP 16th hole Growling Frog OOM 2017

C Grade LD Growling Frog 26/12/17, 15th hole, Callaway BB Alpha, HOF Patriot shaft, same old testicles of steel
C Grade LD Growling Frog 11/8/18, blah blah blah,,,,this is getting to be almost monotonous.....

C Grade LD Growling Frog 1/9/18,...maybe these are now so commonplace I should just stop listing them

NTP Yering Meadows 25th hole 1/12/18...and again 30/12/18 | NTP YM 12th hole 24/2/19

Never contended for the trophy named for me

Low Handicap point 12.7 9/4/16

Finally...and most importantly...
Smoldy....when only the best will do.

Better not tell HGC that you think they're a public course, they mightn't let you in.

Jon...

ps: Forget Heritage it's going downhill and was in poor condition when we played both courses recently.

Gardiners and the Frog are public tracks, so the speed of play could be a problem depending on what times you want to play your golf.

Yering are struggling and have been for afew years now, that's why the cheap offers atm.

Eastern will be a solid course in about 5 to 10 years when the trees grow and define the playing lines. I really look forward to revisiting the course in another 5 + years when it has matured.

Green Acres spent millions on their clubhouse and the course is still in crappy condition, year round.

Kew have spent a bucket load on the course, redesigning greens, bunkers, more and better drainage and I think they are the ones to have gotten the best out of their property for the long term !

Interesting comments about GACG Jon... I am currently considering joining there, played a trial round earlier this year and couldn't fault the conditions. I know there are issues in winter with water and drainage, which is a common theme amongst most Yarra courses, however, I'd love to know more detail on why you think conditions are crappy given your opinion is generally well educated.

Thanks

J
