GOAT

Ball is turning square. Oz will not get to 150 in either innings.

India will comfortably get 300 in their 2nd dig for a lead of 400.

2 days in and neither team have scored runs. Is this an Adelaide Oval Test? Hopefully Starc can hang around while Head can get 100 at his home ground.

Oh and FWIW. drop in pitches have ruined Test Cricket in Australia.

Oh and FWIW. drop in pitches have ruined Test Cricket in Australia.

I have to agree there Micky.

There is no typical "pitch" left in Australia these days.

Each city used to have their own individual pitch with its own degree of variation. Eg, playing on the MCG's Merri Creek soil …. or the bouncy, fast Harvey Waroona soil of the former WACA pitch.

Both of these favoured the home sides, both internationally, and domestically, but not longer is that the case. While other countries toil for months tweaking their pitches to suit the home side, the Aussies are turning out bland pitches that could be from anyplace, and they certainly don't favour the home side.

Having said that, most of the wickets that have fallen so far in the test have been so soft in terms of the dismissals, not many of them actually needed to be played at, and for that, we can probably thank the proliferation of the short format games.

It's no surprise that the two guys who took the time to actually play themselves in will have the top scores from the respective 1st innings. Hopefully those Aussies back in the shed will have a look at Head's efforts and take note, otherwise this could be a very quick test series, cause I don't expect India to capitulate so easily in an innings again. ;)

Problem is, the MCG needs drop in pitches to alleviate the winter centre square bog for the AFL. Nothing worse than watching a game of football where the ball lands in the centre square and...literally....stops.
