I wouldn't bother with a back-up wicket keeper, as our keeper is also the captain, so that means Wade misses out. Tough call on him but to me he's had his chance at this level and hasn't cut it previously.
I like having Joe Burns as he can bat anywhere within the top 6. Based on his 180 in the last start he gets first crack at opening which is harsh on Harris but that's the way it is. Other alternative is to not play (or select) Warner but regardless of the fact I think he's a wanker, his record warrants automatic selection.
No.6 is a contentious, flip-of-a-coin selection. Patterson did well (albeit against weaker opposition) but I think Pucovski is the future of the batting line-up. I also think Stonis is a much better all-rounder than Mitch Marsh and has a good future in the baggy green. I could see all 3 of them playing a role throughout the series.
I wouldn't take a second spinner, other than Holland, none of them are good enough and we're not going to ever play two spinners in the UK. Head and Smith can help out with spin as required.
Plenty of good bowlers to choose from and plenty that are hard done by to miss out. The nice thing is that there is also the 'A-Tour' which means plenty will still tour and get to press their claims. I would take guys like Jackson Bird, Scott Boland, Michael Neser, Chris Tremain based on Shield performance and who I think will do well in the UK.
