Player drags a line in the grass on the fairway behind their ball with their foot to indicate line of play, which rule has been contravened?

Dunno, but pretty sure I saw a golfer at Masters pick his marker up then adjust his ball ever so slightly. Even my non golfing son noticed it

Did you ask them if that was the intention, because the line of play is from the ball, forward toward the target ?

Jon...

ps: you can't make a mark behind the ball either but that wasn't what you stated !

No breach unless he doesn't remove the line/mark before he makes a stroke

8-2a Any mark placed by the player or with his knowledge, for the purpose of indicating the line of play, must be removed before the stroke is made.

It doesn't matter where the line is.

What if its an imaginary line?

Then the player would get an imaginary penalty, to be confirmed later.

Make sure you unimagine it prior to your shot
