8n Test it is every 70 overs. Umpire gets given the ball after a wicket and during the break. Bowling team usually try to change the ball after 30 odd overs if it goes out of shape.
Basically everyone manipulates the ball just not so blatantly.
Bottle caps, finger nails, mint lollies on the duke, bouncing it in to the keeper.
De Pleaseme has been done twice and never suspended.
The whole saga is ridiculous now. Fark cricket.

What happens to a golf ball if you sand paper one side does it effect the ball flight.

Yep, 80 overs. And the thing about having a ball change sooner , every 30 or 40 overs say, is that it would mean you'd have no other bowlers than quicks. The slow bowlers, medium pacers etc would just die out. It'd be just like the Windies in the 70's and 80's with just 5 quicks bowling around the head and 50 overs a day.

The fact that a ball changes it's characteristics over 80+ overs (legally, by wear and tear) is what brings the subtle differences into play. You need bowlers for all conditions.

I would hate to see something bad come of this in the way that someone feels they have no options and does something drastic. It is only a game after all.

Was thinking the same thing about Smith's welfare....

Well in all honesty I thought he would go but I reckoned it would have happened after a review when the team was home...

One positive for Smith and Bancroft going forward. They'll find out who their real mates are as the hangers on will jump off the bus. both need a bit of love and some professional help.

They've had none of that from CA.

Good on the WA exec who sat with and supported Bancroft, she did well. Of the 3, I reckon he is the most likely to come out the other side of this mess. Albeit with a dodgy reputation.

Smith will come out OK after his ban. Warner just seems to be digging himself a bigger hole. O well, I guess he will get a T20 contract again next year.
