Should never have been allowed to play for Australia again, and that goes for the other two.

Harsh, they did the crime and served their time, which was excessive compared to others that have been caught tampering with the ball.

So why wouldn't you put the best back into the test team, maybe the ACB should have cut off one of their hands to send a message ?

Only way to get Smith out is to injure him....

Have no problem with fast bowlers trying to hurt batsmen........ but when you hit a batsman in and around the head and neck area, and he goes down, at least show some empathy.....(even if you don’t mean it)

To see Archer laughing with Butler after Smith got hit (not far off the area that killed Phil Hughes) was a farken disgrace. Hang your head you dead set flog. You sir are a farkwit of the highest order.

Killer(Lillee . You got to love auto correct) and Thomson never showed much emotion in their heyday. Good effort by our bowlers. Should be interesting to see if English can get enough runs to push for a result or go 2 down.

Lillee and Thompson era was 30 to 40 years ago Iron One, long before before Phillip Hughes died.

Most batsmen didn’t even wear helmets back then.

In that time things have changed a little IM.

What was common practice then is not readily accepted these days.

And yet the basic rule is, if you can't play the hook shot very well then get out of the way. Or if you try to play the hook, then be prepared to cop one occasionally and more likely from the leading edge.

I grew up in the pre helmet era and have never been hit in the head from a short delivery. I didn't play the hook or pull shots until well into an innings !

Smith got tagged because of his very unusual technique and footwork.

Have absolutely no problem at all with batsmen being ‘tagged’ GG, that is part of the game.

My issue with last night was that IMO when a batsmen gets hit on the head or neck (post Phillip Hughes) the bowler should show some sort of concern. (Whether they mean it or not is irrelevant) - instead of showing no concern and laughing afterwards.

I would like to think that cricketers have got better at this, post Phillip Hughes.

It's the Ashes and I'd expect no less from either side but a small nod of concern might have gone along way to making Archer more palatable in the press ?

And therein lies the problem …. they managed to tag him, and that in my book ...…. is fair enough.

As for the pom's and particularly the bowler showing empathy, I'd rather the opposition didn't "fake" an attempt at empathy, just let them get back to their mark and get ready for the next delivery.

I still remember Thommo being quoted as saying he loves to see "blood on the pitch" … and there was nothing wrong with that either I reckon.

Every fast bowler who ever lived tries to uses intimidation to get inside the head of the batsmen, so suck it up I say and play on.

Perhaps during his year off, the cheating prick should have practiced facing short bowling ……  ;)

There's no doubt Aussies will probably never live down the sandpaper event in South Africa, but many seem to have forgotten the '05 ashes series when the poms made the ball do some unbelievable things simply by sucking on mints and using their saliva to polish the ball. In the rules of cricket ......NOT legal.

How did they get away with that?

Love to see the bowlers stick around so he can reach the ton. More runs than the entire pommie team.
