So what was the ball doing? Was it always right? What shape? Straight right, right but drawing back, right and fading further right?

All of the bad hits. You said you weren't swinging well at all - so what was the ball doing? What starting lines, shapes, distances?

Hmmm, ok, I'm going to need more therapy after thinking about this again...

1. The new ugly miss hit, spears off to the right, contact solid, not getting ground behind the ball. It heads off at 45 deg abd keeps turning.

I got one yesterday like it with trackman logging, VERY open face as suspected, with an outside in path.

2. General blah, miss hit, on course the other day were fat, or getting ground behind the ball.

3. A few solid contact ones, start straight and either get a very slight fade or draw. Not consistent though, so unreliable.

4. A couple of more "slice" type shots... It's club path out to in, for sure, as they start straight.

Did trackman give you angle of attack numbers? I'm wondering if you are coming in steep?

TBH, I don't know.

I was focussed on the swing path ... it's outside to in, so lesson was focused on correcting that ...

I was also distracted by the propect of getting to hit these:

I thought that was your good hit?

its' my go to shot after getting:

a. close enough to the green in 2 to chip on and make par or bogey

b. close enough to the green off the tee to pitch in and get birdie or par

or

c. be close enough to the green after 4 and needing to get it close to make 6

c the being my most likely and most frustrating as you well know...........

With the mis hit right ... it sounds to me like the timing between the top and bottom halves of the body are out of sync.

One thing you should feel on all iron and wedge shots (unless playing for extra height), is that you right are over the ball thru the impact zone.

By that I mean that you feel like your body is above the ball and you're coming down on it and going to hit a low bullet of a shot.

At times we can get lazy, and lean back and just throw the arms at the ball, and that produces all sorts of weird and not so wonderful results.

If you can feel that you are covering the ball though, eg really hitting down thru impact, then your weight will be in the right position (slightly ahead of the ball), and your swing won't come from the outside.

Tis hard to come from the outside if you are facing the ball at impact.

A good drill for the range is to imagine a low horizontal bar, set a few metres in front of the ball at about waist height, and your aim is to hit them under the bar. When you can manage to get the ball flying low and powerfully you know your on the right track, and you'll certainly feel a difference at impact to what you are probably feeling now.

Once you get that low initial loft and great contact, you should be able to translate that up and down the irons, and hit them all a lot crisper and cleaner, not to mention a touch further with less actual effort. (You'll be turning your 7 into a 6 iron etc, just by changing the clubs presented loft at impact position.)

Just something to try, or not ....... :)

Enjoy the new toys

Cheers Weeti.

I AM

Went to the range yesterday. After smacking the ground with PW, 8, and 5 irons, it was F%&^ it moment that saw me pull the new Cobra F7 Fairway out of the bag and have a swing. SMASH ... long straight, holy F*&^ where did THAT come from moment.

Hmmm, bet I can't do that again ... F^&^ me, I did. 5 in a row. straight and solid. Landing with range ball around 175m (measured with rangefinder the marker which was 178m, and my estimate is about 3-5 m just before the marker) and rolling out to ??, who knows, but most looked at least 5m past the marker.

OK, gotta try the Cobra F7 Driver ... BANG, shotgun sound and it's over the top of the same marker as per above. F&%& me.

Hmmm, how many can I get in a row?

3 ...

Then started to spray them, or, rather pull them, then really pull and draw them (NO IT WAS NOT A HOOK) ... stop, think. Hmmm, OK, get 'down the line' ... BANG, long and straight again.

Best guess, they were landing (i.e. carry distance) about 10-15m beyond the marker which was at 178m.

So, yep ... VERY HAPPY with the new Driver and Fairway

:D

Thanks for all that ... it's great info for a hack like me. I can understand what you're trying to convey, ah, ... I think.

"... it sounds to me like the timing between the top and bottom halves of the body are out of sync."

VERY much so with the weird sharp off to the right miss hit. I think it may be from me trying to get my lower body through to stop the fat 'hit behind the ball' shot, but my arms do not move through as quick. Definite out of sync.

"One thing you should feel on all iron and wedge shots (unless playing for extra height), is that you right are over the ball thru the impact zone.

Yeah, I definitely don't get that feeling. Having read that, and reflecting on the feeling, I am 'sweeping' the ball away, most times, WAY too much. I can see it in the length of the 'divot' and ground "contact".

But, having said that, YES, I can feel the solid, 'down' club hit ball first shot and it's a soft "hot knife through butter feeling" with the ball flight totally different. It's just getting to making this happen ALL THE TIME.

Had short session at range before school puck up, got a half dozen of those "hot knife through butter" contact shots. SO nice.

Just couldn't replication it each time!

Arghhhh.

Only did a small bucket.
