Today I attended the funeral and said goodbye to a special man who went by the name Gravy Golfer here at ISeek. Gravy was well known here in SEQ as the skateboard guy - as he rode a skateboard style golf buggy. It was always quite a sight to see him ride down the fairway with his bag in front of him like a ships captain on the prow.

Gravy was one of those guys who made everyone feel welcome. He would be the first to go up and introduce himself to new members - and even caddies :). He was quite the sportsman representing his state in netball, racing cars, and more recently taking on the challenge of this great game we all love.

Gravy unfortunately passed away Sunday week ago. He decided that he couldn't go on. He leaves behind a lovely wife, 5yo son and 1yo daughter, and a large group of grieving family and friends. Today over 200 people attended his funeral. I gave a testimonial on behalf of the SEQGG and Brisbane Fairways golf clubs.

The SEQGG will rename our annual award in his honour to remember a great man and a good friend.

RIP Gravy - we will miss you mate

Thanks for being there for us Weeti. You are a good man. It would have been tough today.

Played with Gravy a few times and would always have a chat before the social games. I hadn't seen him for some time now as I haven't been playing outside of my club for a year now - but I can remember his smiling face like it was just yesterday. Devastating and sad on so many levels.

RIP Gravy.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Sad event.

Many on here feel low at various times for a plethora of different reasons.

If anyone isn't going too well,  don't be shy or bottle it up.

Lots of people on here have been there and done that.  Just give a shout.

There is no reason to feel like a one man band, there are so many good people that can give you a hand.

For all the banter and at times vitriol on these pages the majority care about each other.

Damn - mortality is such a flimsy things sometimes, and would hate to be in his shoes at the point where he saw no alternatives in life.

RIP Gravy and strength the wife and children he has left behind.

If I remember correctly, Gravy was in the group I played my first iSeek game in at Gailes 2 or 3 years ago. He was a great bloke to have a round with, I subsequently played 3 or 4 rounds with him at various SEQ games.

And he loved his "skateboard"  :)  He actually made his own homegrown version first. Must have been a real labour of love for him, before he went out and brought his baby. His first round on it with us at Carbrook a while back, and FMD there was another bloke in a group near us with the same one!! The only 2 of them things I've ever seen. You couldn't stop them chatting about their 'finds' all round. I learnt a lot about battery life, features and carrying capacity that day...

We'll all miss you Gravy. RIP mate.

And thumbs up to you Weets. Thanks for representing his golf buddies.

It's sad to hear of anyone who takes that option.

We all have our trials and tribulations, sometimes quite serious.  But, as others have said, just tell people you're having trouble coping with it all and someone will help you.  Or call the helpline if you want to avoid any perceived embarrassment.

Very sad news indeed. May he rest in peace and may his family find the strength to get them through this tragedy.
