So it is matchplay time across the land. The glove rippers, club rattlers, coughers, line of sight movement merchants and general hustlers are out and about. What is the best way to deal with someone who tries a bit of niggle?

Air horn in the bag for their next tee shot? Sorry mate just got a text message. Must have left the phone on.

Tell them that you boned their mother. And their father too.

A move last seen during a playoff at the Cessnock Cup.

I played pennant yesterday as No2. Their No1 had had a few mediocre shots in the first few holes and the ribbing was getting under way.

When he duffed his tee shot on 3, I said, "and you're their number one player?".

That certainly kicked the sledging into gear, all in good fun. We had a great day. Would have been better if those in front had just kept hitting fairways instead of spending their full five minutes on each misplaced ball.

Yes, I lost. But so did their No 1 who continued his form, although he did play some cracker shots too.

A lad from Branxton took a slash on a buggy. Was maybe 20 years ago.

That's why I enjoyed golf while I played very rare anyone sledged unless the people involved knew each other well.......no place for sledging in golf in my opinion......matchplay brings the worst out in people

But in golf, as there are in life, there will always be bullies who just can't help themselves.
