Eagle is an eagle isn't it? Both 2 under par.

Well why is it so special to eagle a par 3 then? Still 2 under par if you put it like that!

That's exactly what I was saying in my original post which you dismissed.

Both are very special, but I'd prefer my eagle to come via the one shot, as someone said, nothing better than putting a '1' on the scroecard.

Neither are as good as a 3W into a bucket from 250m

Would have to be in comp tho'

I am talking about holing out for eagle on a par 4 or albatross on a par 5. Not the tap in eagles we get on 5's. I wasn't meaning to be dismissive of your eagle I just think holing out from 100m plus does not get the credit it deserves especially as it can be from any lie not sitting pretty on a tee!

I see it like this.. There are 4 (assuming your course has 4 par 3s) attempts at a hole in one per round (assuming that you can reach all par 3s and not the par 4s in one) and 14 other holes where you can score an eagle (again assuming you can reach the greens in regulation). That means that a hole in one should be 3-4 times less likely than an eagle, which means it should be more of an accomplishment..

Albatross is another level all together, but comparing holing out for eagle vs hole in one, I think it comes back to putting a '1' on a scorecard. No real reason why, but it just feels a little more special.

Yep, another good way to look at it.

In my previous golf life (15 years ago) I sank a 3 iron from 150M for an eagle.

I've never had a hole-in-one but I think it would feel a whole lot better than even that did. It's the "1" that sets it apart imho.

Albatross, yep, even rarer than HIO's aren't they? And you know an albatross is almost definitely from a very long way out. But I'd rate a HIO higher than an eagle.

I've only ever had 1 hole in one when I was 14 194 mt par 3 the hole has now been shortened so I'm on the honour board for longest hole in one unless someone jags one on a short par 4 my name should be there for a while as longest hole in one. Iv had more eagles than I can think of all diffrent ways so a hole in one far out rates a eagle in my opinion anyway.

But if it's not in comp then it doesn't really matter anyway.

If I ever get a hole in one in a social round, it will matter to me! :)
