I mentioned elsewhere that I'm carrying an injury. So, for anyone who might be even remotely interested, here's the story.

My golf swing is always undergoing little changes, a CIP (constant improvement programme). I know what I'm supposed to do, but if I was, I'd be hitting the ball further. For the most part, direction is fairly good and, with the help of DMDs, iron length is predictable. But I find that with far too many par 4s, two shots still leaves me short of the greens. With any slight faltering of my hits (not an uncommon occurrence), it takes me par to get on the green. Then I need a 1-putt for 2 points.

GG (Jon) has told me that I have an arms swing, even though I've tried to turn the body. Yet I've often felt that the body turn was just going along for the ride, not driving the shot.

In March, Warra offered a '3 lessons for $100' deal. I had a $100 voucher so I figured I'd probably be better off with some lessons in lieu of drinking it. So I went to Andrew K and signed up, telling him I wanted more distance off the tee.

Andrew is an excellent teacher (now gone to Pat River). But he concentrated more on my finish, centre contact and improving all the Trackman angles. Friends have commented that my swing looks a lot better. But I don't seem to be hitting the ball any further.

Now for the injury. I've been playing a lot of golf and my swing changes seem to have been assimilated. Clearly, I have a better body turn and now my right leg is driving something in addition to the cart. My right thigh was getting sore but with some recovery on days off. But it's been getting worse. Not sure if it was my hip degenerating, the knee playing up (been a problem for years) or a muscular problem. It got so bad, I had a pronounced limp and considerable pain after sitting around for awhile after each round. I had a tube of deep heat rub and tried that after Thurs round with considerable relief. I've spent the last two days sitting around doing SFA and regularly applying the deep heat. The limp is much reduced and I even got some sleep last night. The plan is to continue doing nothing for another two days and see how things turn out after Tues golf.

The lawn is looking so scruffy, someone put a Jim's Mowing card in my letterbox.

As I age, my recovery from minor physical ailments is much slower than in my younger days. So I might have to curtail the 3 days of golf in a row and accept my limitations. That might rule me out of the Rosebud OOM.

Sometimes you just have to listen to your body and take time off and get back to close to 100%. Enjoy the break in the meantime.

Sounds like the new pivot has started the process of using some muscle groups that haven't been in play for awhile ?

If you increase the overall length of your driver by a couple of inches, to the maximum allowable 48" would you still get the centre of the clubface back to the ball square ?

If your answer is yes it could be the easiest way to get another 20+ out of the driver !

You are accurate enough now, so it would be an interesting experiment and fairly cheap to setup.

Think outside the box !

Thanks Jon.  But I doubt that I would have good enough centering, which is still not really good enough.

You're right about the muscles - not used before.  Well, not in playing golf anyway.

Well, four days of rest.
In terms of good, better, best (wrong order), the leg is better than it was, not particularly good and far from best.
I still have a dicky knee, the hip is doubtful, but the muscles have settled down.

Golf tomorrow and we'll see how that goes.

Correction to above (long) post, Andrew has gone to Long Island, not Pat River.

Well, two days of golf, with a day off in between and the leg is still bloody sore.

Repair will take longer than anticipated.

May I suggest, indoor carpet bowls for the winter period ?

Not sure if you can use your own cart though !
