Should A Grade Club Championships be decided over four rounds of strokeplay, two rounds of strokeplay and then seeded matchplay, or through another format?
Through personal experience, four rounds of strokeplay generally results in the 'best' golfer at the club winning the title, however it can be drama-less if they end up winning by 10+ shots. I feel that there's a grey area here, where the best golfers need to be rewarded, however the atmosphere that matchplay provides can create much needed excitement around a club.
Whereas, seeded matchplay allows the less skilled golfers to be in with a chance to take down the big guys, and the matchplay encounters can provide positives (friendly rivalries) or negatives (can cause tension within the club).
What is everyone's experience and opinion on the matter?

Matchplay handicap should be run as an additional club event over the full season

This is how Piney has always done it. Best way by a long wayClub should run both , club champion should be lowest 72 hole off the stick . Matchplay champion should be decided as a seperate event played off scratch using club champs for seeding .

My club has a 72 hole stroke event with the last 36 holes being the qualifying for the Club Championship where 16 qualify for 36 hole matches.
The 72 hole event was introduced a few years ago along with an A Reserve Championship for players with a handicaps from 8-13.

I'm tied up with one person at the moment and if neither of us improve our last round it's going to end that way.
Really shouldn't have put the 41 points from eyensbury and the +6 at keysie in, they nearly wiped two shots off me 😢

How the hell does that work?So what's the procedure if there is a draw in the overall nett for all grades ?

Is it not best gross score?
A/B/C grades have nett and gross winner and there is the overall handicap champion.

Fair enough, are you any chance in the gross?

4 shot lead at the moment with one average round in there so hopefully get a 78-80 in this Sunday and that should be enough.Fair enough, are you any chance in the gross?
*edit, in B grade

Unbelievable.Cause we only have 50 people in our club we use the best 3/4 rounds you put in, gives people who can't show up every week a chance and gets the participation up a bit over the month cause if you blow up the first one you still have a chance.
