So I said I would start a thread and here it is to be shamed, defamed, derailed, and whatever else you guys like to do to these threads

 

Sat: 107 (60 + 47) - Started on 13 with a shotgun start. Bogeyed the first 5 holes, then par, then fell away. Ended up with a 10(par 5), 9(4) 7(4) 8(5) which killed my score on the front and 9(4) on the final hole for the day. Ball striking was the best it has been and got myself into contention on a lot of holes to actually post up a good score but just couldn't close it because of chipping. 

 

Unfortunately it has gone out the window, actually anything <30 and I was done for on Sat, I lost a lot of strokes because of this and were the main contributors to above. Double hit chip doesn't help either. Couple of 3 putts but because of leaving myself very short on the green and then not confident to hit the putt after it. 

 

Driver worked most of the day, couple of bad holes (incl the 10 above). Only ended in trees twice and didn't take my medicine and suffered from it.

Sun: 109 (52 + 57). Eff all sleep but what felt a better day on the course and thought before totaling score I had a day out. Unfortunately was not the case. Looking back the score didn't really reflect the round and was very disappointed with the score but over all happy with the round. Ball striking was the best I had, driver was extremely great except for two very hard swings which cost me. 

 

1 X 10 (par 5) on my favourite hole because of chipping again 3 X 8 and 3 X 7 the rest was pretty much bogey golf. Overall my chipping was great bar one hole. Worked on it during the round and found my commitment to hit the shot was my issue. Once I committed and swung the way i should it worked a dream. 

 

Couple of pitches in from around 50 I thought I had hit long only to walk up and find them short by around 6 feet. Confused, one of my playing partners said it had pitched about 6 feet past the hole, hopped and spun back past the hole. So happy with that as it means I can go long and let it come back below the hole. 

 

Ball striking the best and driver working a treat. Had some decent hits and had 2 shockers. Took my medicine as well where necessary and did ok from it.

Walked away now knowing what my issue with ball striking was, so fixed that. Driver same. Pitching and chipping is where my game is letting me down now but I have a better understanding as to why so will be working on this. Also changed my putting grip back to a standard overlapping grip and found I was more controlling and better contact from it so this helped as well. 

 

My biggest issue is now committing to a shot and hitting it in both pitching\chipping\putting. I found I was backing off or not keeping a fluid swing and then would hit fat\chunk or catch thin. Once I commited and followed through I hit some glorious chips and flop shots through the round.

Looking forward too actually having a way to write it out and vent as well as see why I need to do thing. So will be good! To go from Low 90's to mid high 100/110's has been a big battering to the confidence. To finally see some scores in the 40's for 9 was a good start this weekend which I havent seen for a while. Then to have a consistent 50 score for both is good.

 

Looking forward to this weekend to get back out again. Debating whether or not to Range this week or not. 

 

Uploaded my 2 rounds from the weekend up to gamegolf (link below should show them if your interested). As Ink said some real opportunities to put some decent scores on the board but the LW with chipping was letting me down. Some bad putting in there but that was from being angry rather than bad putts.

 

2 years of getting the game to a great way and scoring in the low 90's and in the last 9 months blowing out with the ups and downs has been a confidence killer. Actually having a (social) round of 82 at the Bat last year shows me I can get these good scores but frustrates me when I post up big numbers and as everyone has said confidence is king in this game! My next goal is to get back to 92 - 95 scores then come in too 87 -90.

 

Now that the equipment is all set and loving it, I don't see much change other than Loft changes to 2 wedges. One to be bought back to 50*(AW) as it should be and the 52* bent to 55* to bring me 5* gaps between AW and 60*. Then bounce on the 2 mack daddy wedges. I just need to hold firm on not purchasing clubs haha.
