At Sanctuary lakes here is what we are going to do to make things go even smoother

we are going to introduce group captains.

the group captains will be the one to make decision on when a player should hitting provisional balls (no walks of shame) , keep group going right behind the one in front, tell when to take wipes when out,. get everyone to hit first then look for balls, if its worth looking at all. marking cards, etc etc.

A few people have already agreed to volunteer for this role and I thank them for their suggestions and imput so far on how it will work

The group captains will be briefed at start of play on any local rules etc and time limits for group.

The same guys will be captains at next few OOM's and hopefully after two or three more days other players will step up and accept the roles to learn and all will accept responsibility for their position in field it will flow on through to new guys.

You are going to appoint someone who can tell another player when they should play a provisional, and also put a rule in that if you adjacent played one you have to take a wipe?

Is that even allowable in the rules?

Is probably not in the rules of golf but it is traditional that the lowest marker is group captain and is responsible for the group and things like pace of play . Telling a player to play a provisional or to pick up might be pushing the limits a bit . Could suggesting that they should play a provisional be construed as giving advice and therefore a two shot penalty .
The principal of a group captain is fine as long as pace of play is the main concern but I can hear an experienced golfer telling a group captain to go and get rooted

I can't see it achieving much. Most ISG'rs are experienced golfers who don't need to be treated like ignorant children.

if so who are the ones making the walk of shame.

every Sermon on mount I say please play a provisional if think it is lost,

still people dont do this, despite this talk, so time to change this.

. but got to try and stop this walk of shame stuff which we know is happening, but which everyone  agrees does contribute to the slowness

but I might say to you or members of group must say , Weeti  you better hit a provisional we might not find that, and when you dont find it, the group should say keep moving mate take an out.

if its a par 4 and you dont  have a shot really are you really going to score a point when you are 3 off tee and still have 195m to go to get to green.

Just a side on this.......GPJ, Kiwi and I played on Sunday......we are all "experienced" but we still consulted our playing partners when it come to hitting a provisional.    Your playing partners are there to watch your shots...and if they can't see it land or have doubts where it's gone.....there is no shame in taking advice from the others to hit another ball.   (Even though you are pissed for stuffing up)

It's probably worse if you tell the bloke to "get stuffed" and you have to take the walk of shame.

Why not name and shame?? Did anyone actually take the walk of shame yesterday?
I've never had a player in my group take the walk in the OOMs I've played. In the rare instances that I've had to suggest a provisional, it's been accepted by the player.

Anyone on here who believes that a player in their group failed to do something obvious to keep up pace of play speak up please. There is no point in supposition, let's put up facts.

Oz did, twice.  On both occasions we should have easily found his ball.  On the second, we did, but too late.  We had a cart to whip him back to where he'd hit from.  We still finished right behind the group in front, waiting for them to clear the 18th green.

Thanks to the guys in our group for a fun, long day on the course.
I really enjoy playing with new faces from the forum at different venues.

Joey did struggle abit on afew holes but to his credit, kept a great outlook on his golfing abilities, sometimes to his own detriment.
Rob is fast becoming a solid swinger of the clubs, won't take a lot more to be in control of his whole bag and a full array of shots to choose from during a round.
And Muff, what a card. Enjoyed the banter at the end of the round, when everyone was weary and struggling to finish off ! Still not sure if he is from the sub-continent or north America(funny red Indian accent)
St. Johns is atleast 5 shots harder than the new comer around the corner and explains to me why some handicaps are tumbling. The condition of the course coming out of winter was to be expected, thin and underdone. The greens are still its biggest defence, hard to read and control the speed of some putts. The lack of attention to the bunkers was evident with GUR signs in most of them.
Imagine if the wind had gotten up, 6 hours ?
I had conceded an extra 30 minutes for a 5 hour round, so 5.15/20 wasn't to far off the mark !
The OOM sunday rounds of golf are always going to be subject to what other social groups are also on the course at the same times. We just happened to have a rabble in front of us, yesterday.
Our group did loose contact on the 13th with the 4 in front for acouple of holes but when asked to pickup the slack the boys took the challenge and caught up by the end of the 15th hole.
I am very disappointed at the finger pointing by some, considering the effort given by our committee to these extremely successful days !
To those that didn't attend, if you haven't anything good to say, don't say anything.
Congratulations to the winners and Ozwald ! ( luv'd those sexy new grips bigfella )

As Mark stated we were second group off the tenth, overall our pace of play was good.  there was a stretch of 4 holes our back nine where we were a a little behind primarily due to a few terrible holes (the second our 11th, 3 balls in the water), but by the 9th or last hole we had caught up and were waiting to tee off.

For the rest of the round we were waiting to to hit our shots for the group in front the either clear the landing zone or green and we could see they were waiting on the group in front so we could not have really moved any quicker.

There were no walks of shame in the group either
