I think you're pretty right on. Of course there are big hitters out there but I reckon most of us are delusional on distances averaged. I'm not long and not short all things considered and I reckon I average 230m. I hit 7 iron 150m as another guide.

I think that people think that they drive it longer than they think - I am up there with all the 'bigger hitters' in the club (most of us low markers are generally is the same area) - I often measure drive with GPS when I think that I have hit a good one - 250 m is a good number for me. The average drive on PGA is 275 Yards, that is 250 M...

According to a chart I am looking at to carry a ball 255 (275 total) yards, you must have a swing speed of 106 MPH. If you watch the PGA and sometimes show the launch stats for a hole, how many are above 110? Not as many as you think..

cheers

I have been on launch monitors and carry it around 240m and roll out to 260m or thereabouts.  I did GPS measure one of my drives on the second hole at Rich River and it was 271m, but I did nail it.  I haven't played with many people over the years who hit it consistently further than me.

Last ISG round, I was in Petethegreenkeeprs group and he launches it a mile. I think he said he hits around 260m, but that would be pretty much all carry as he wasn't getting much roll at Settlers Run.  I could keep up with him into the wind and side winds, but he was a good 15 - 20 metres past me down wind.

Ive measured drives occasionally and have come up with 255m at KGC. Not consistently as Im not good enough to replicate the same swing every time. Also my second shots tend to go a bit wayward and at times my short game is shite.:-). Hence the handicap.

You and Pete would be the 2 biggest hitters in the Vic group.

The average drive on PGA is 275 Yards, that is 250 M...

That's not necessarily with a driver though.

I'd also say the average is a fair bit higher as 275 yards is good for T187th on the driving distance list.

I'm the lowest marker (+ the youngest) in my group and the amount of times I've had to reply that I've only hit it 235/40 compared with the 275 they come up with is amazing. So on that premise I'd say u r pretty much spot on.

Everyone remembers and brags about the one that was absolutely hit out of the middle with a down wind and on to firm fairways. That is not an indication of an average drive. I would say I drive around 220m on average, and I'm well short of the other guys in my group who hit it easily 30-50m past me and I consider us all hackers about the same handicap of 11. The uber hacker who are on a 18 handicap and above who drives it 250m on AVERAGE can be found. But I would say 8 out of 10 are telling porkies.

You and Pete would be the 2 biggest hitters in the Vic group.

JRG would be close.  Pin high on the magpie hole at Settlers.

Wozz and LittleMan can be quite long as well.

Played with one of Keysie's pennant team he did 250m easily and often.

I believe it because I do it myself (well, just under) - with the golfshot stats to prove it. My mate does the same - mid handicappers. The other guys are right though the misses are huge, not just in the trees but a whole fairway across.

This is a good day though the median over all rounds is 240 and i consider myself a big hitter - but there are longer guys than me out there so it's not so far fetched
