You could be right. Was out of the game for a long time and so could have missed the all new chipper. I have played with guys over the years who have used chippers and all of them have been really high handicappers with no game to speak of. This has always been a club for the golfer who accepts that he wil not/can not improve. But.. A lot of things change and this could well be the smart golfers choice. At this point in yet to be convinced.
The jury is probably still out on this but I was finding situations out on the course where my ball was close to the green but either in a dry area or an area of high traffic, making the lie hard and tight. Very difficult if you need to get over a bunker.
The lob wedge (and the gap w.) either skinnied the ball or I hit it fat trying to get under the ball or I chickened out of the shot and decelerated resulting in a flub. This chipper , as I said, has a sharp leading edge and a wide base plus it's very similar to a putter in head and hosel design. So far I've had about 90% success rate with it, especially the shot over a bunker off a tight lie.
