David Warner 145 .... set the tone for the team in the first innings ... and backed it up again with 102.

And you all reckon Warner wouldn't have been a good choice for man of the match????

It was Warner who put the Indians on the backfoot from the very start of the game.

When his opening partner fell for 9 runs, the score was already 50, and who do you reckon was scoring em??? .........

While Warner scored 247 for the team .......... Lyon gave away 268.

I'm not saying the 12 wickets weren't well done by Lyon, they certainly were (but on a spin friendly pitch) ...... but geez, he went for more runs than Warner could hit in two innings.

Spin friendly? How many wickets did the Indian spinners take? I'd say it was more a batting paradise (which you stated numerous times While bagging out Clarke) 4 batsmen scored tons, 2 scored double tons, 1 scored a ton on 1 leg, smith didn't get dismissed and 1 player scored 99. For 1 player to take 12 wickets on such a paradise far outweighs a batsman cashing in on a road and poor bowling (which you have also stated numerous times)

Agree there Matt.

I reckon -

If India had played out a draw and Lyon took, say, 4x 2nd inns wickets then Warner would have been MOTM

If India had won the game Kohli would have been given MOTM

Lyon spun Australia to victory so he rightfully got MOTM

All 3 of those players would have got a MOTM in most other games for their performances. But Lyon was rightfully MOTM imho, he was the difference between the teams in that match.

Just watching the test against the Pakis and Lyon is tossing up absolute rubbish yet again.  Things must be very crook in Tallarook if he is our best spinner.

He doesn't turn the ball, get it to dip or drift.  He does nothing.

Thank god for Mitch !

Times have changed.

Times have changed.

Someone actually told him that bowling darts is rubbish.  To his credit he finally listened.  Had spells in the last test when he got negative but a lot less than before.

Spin friendly?

Did you see the footprints Lyon got to bowl in for two innings?

Even during the Indians first innings the footprints were worn and the ball was turning out of them.

Did you see the footprints Lyon got to bowl in for two innings?

Even during the Indians first innings the footprints were worn and the ball was turning out of them.

Lyon stated himself that he had Ishant Sharma to thank for his excellent performance.

Sharma bowling around the wicket in Australia's first innings created the footmarks that Lyon exploited so well from the other end.

None of that has anything to do with the wicket being a poor one though.

Bowlers create footmarks from the get go, that's a fact.

It's just that a right arm offspinner generally doesn't get to exploit them when bowling to RHB's (unless there's a lot of left arm bowlers operating).

our bowlers didn't leave any foot marks, it was just the Indian bowlers. So they didn't have any to bowl into

Just reading in the local Courier Mail (so its gospel). Apparently Nathan only needs a handful more wickets to be the leading Aussie off-spinner in history (by number of wickets).

To win a test match you have to dismiss the opposition twice. Davey set the tone alright and Lyno finished them off.

Hazelwood and starc in

Good moves

Siddle and Harris rested

I think a good move .....starc swings it so gabba suits him, Hazelwood is sharp so he will get the bounce

Short turn around so rotation policy is a god idea

I think Mitch Marsh will bowl well on this deck also
