Perth International

ISPS Handa steps in last minute to become title sponsor (underwriter), recent stories saying event could be in doubt for next year. Event co sanctioned with Euro tour as well wiht a few bigger names.

The Australian Masters (No title sponsor yet?)  20 Nov event

The Australian PGA Championship (No title sponsor yet)  Dec 11 event

The Australian Open  (Emirates title sponsor)  27 Nov start

Even with a title sponsor these events tend to lose bucket loads.

What does the future look like for our summer of golf moving forward?

Ordinary.

One solution would be to merge with the ISG Nationals, make it a Pro-Am...how good would that be!

The future is in Asia before the US PGA tour takes the whole thing over with its venture into China.

About time the PGA of Australia gave up on One Asia and started talks with the Asian tour and merge the 2 to get a proper schedule for Aussies/NZ and Asian players including taking back China from the US PGA tour.

They've announced Beteasy as their naming rights. Hopefully more positive news regarding players to come.

I think that IMG look for accounting benefit, whilst the governments (who underwrite the events) are looking at the economic benefit of these tournaments. Microeconomics would dictate that by hosting these events the states drive tourism and exposure through the television audience. Remember the Aus Masters will be beamed into the US via Golf Channel.

The Masters will headline with Scott going for the three-peat and that will be it for big names (and those in form). The veterans (ie Appleby, Allenby etc, Parry, Ogilvy) will all still play, particularly given it is Metro. It reminds me of 2008..last year at Huntingdale...and I think it was Sportingbet came on as a title sponsor at late notice...a cheap sell and the field wasn't great. I feel like the Masters is struggling overall. The prize money hasn't moved beyond $1 million for a couple of years.

Of three major tournaments, the Aussie Open looks the strongest by a distance. With Rory, Scotty, Spieth, some overseas talent...lost Day to injury but up until that he was playing too. Good name sponsor in Emirates. The PGA works at Royal Pines..just not super easy to get big names because the course doesn't have huge reputation. Not sure where Perth Intl sits in all of this either.

It's shifting dates to attract a better field.

The Masters lost a  lot of momentum when GA pushed the Open in front of the Presidents Cup. That single handedly destroyed what was quickly becoming a very large event in the region. Melbourne clearly has the best courses, however, with a raft of other big events, golf sits on the third rung of Vic Government events.

It's shifting dates to attract a better field.

Shifting dates to when though? If you go to other end of the European Tour season, it's packed with Africa and Middle East stops. Need an event that has a relatively easy flight to WA (assuming it stays in Perth) . There are Kuala Lumpur events in April but no big names will come halfway around the world near/after Masters time. Can't see it being on any schedule until 2016 at earliest.

As I understand it, GA doesn't control that scheduling. That is PGA Tour Australasia decision. I don't agree that it was becoming a very large event in the region. When Woods was here in 2009 it was huge...agree on that. 2010 was big (not as big as 2009) but once Woods didn't come...things slowed. It was like going huge early, then being hard to top huge in future years. Remember when Luke Donald came out and played? I went along that year and there were like 60 people watching him and he was World Number 1 at the time. (happy to concede that Donald and Woods are different versions of World Number 1)

Something about early in the year from what I read. Can't remember exactly.

The problem with Perth is that from November 1 - mid march it's 40 degrees every other day. If the Perth International shifts then that will probably require one of our other big events to move with it. Australia is very isolated when taking into context the U.S.

Anyone know when the field is going to be released? Seems ridiculous being 2 weeks out and aside from Adam Scott I can't find any further info on who's playing!

The advertising around the Masters has been very poor this year, perhaps this is due to a number of other external activities, namely the Aus Open.

The Open was always going to trump the Masters this year due to Rory, Adam and Speith.

this is the field

Boo Weekley and Kyle Stanley are the big name invites, unless the TBC are big names it will probably be the worst field ever
