Oh and the matchplay went well also.  We started up and then they got away from us for a bit.  We were giving away a few shots which made it difficult at times.  But the shot of the day was when I finished in a bunker well short of the green on the 17th (which hates me).  I took a 54 deg wedge and just clipped it beautifully.  I couldn't see where it ended up, but when it got there I was 2.5 feet from the hole which gave me a par to bring us to plus 1 dormie.  They managed to take the 18th which took us back to the 1st where nobody got any shots and we managed to get away with the win with a nice par from my playing partner.

Let us know what you think / learn.

I must say I do like the muppets.  Fitting and clubs (including shafts) is one area where I am just happy for someone to give me advice.  For that matter, swing thoughts is another one.  I am just entirely happy to delegate some of that stuff to people that know better than me.  And soon enough the advice they give me either proves itself in the application in which case I go with it.  Or it doesn't in which case I try something else.

I do like testing stuff on the trackman and having coach show me which combinations perform better for different reasons.  But having looked at those numbers, I couldn't tell you what my swing speed or launch angle or whatever is - just this one works better than that one.  Coach showed me a bunch of shafts which were ostensibly labelled as the same flex but actually varied widely in flex - he said that a bunch of the older guys he fits choose a particular shaft because it is labelled as regular but performs more like a senior flex - so it works better for them to have a more flexible shaft, but they prefer to have the one that is labelled regular. I don't know how true that anecdote is, but it rings true that there are many more reasons why things are labelled the way that they are than just their objective characteristics.

When I first started golf I bought some "ladies'" clubs.  Now I know that anything labelled ladies is likely to be entirely unsuited to my game and the same is true of all of the good female golfers at my club.  But there are plenty of women that I play with that they are ideally suited for.

I am just happy that Dwayne is such a kick-arse.  Maybe now I can stop working on my bloody driving and move on to other areas of my game which are sorely in need of attention.

Okay so the new driver is all ordered.  Existing Dwayne has become proto-Dwayne until the real one arrives, but I can still use him until that happens - which will be either this weekend or the next when I can pick him up.

As long as he doesn't play like the old driver, I am going to be signficantly in front.  Honestly, I just want to stop working on this issue and move on to other stuff.

My post can also be deleted, it doesn't make any sense now that Oldbogey has had his ridiculous post removed.

We should just leave this one, though.

So went out for a hit yesterday as a guest of Muffin at Spring Valley - on possibly the worst golfing day I have experienced this season.  Cold and rainy on and off all day.  Started out well despite the conditions but utterly limped home to a grand total of 26 points.  Which seems to have been about the tale of the tape because our little group all ended up on about the same score.

Dwayne wasn't bothered by the conditions and hit some lovely shots.  So that was nice, and really one of the key reasons I wanted to get out this week before I back up on Saturday with another matchplay round.

The course was in good nick.  I had played there once years ago but only had vague recollections of a few of the holes.  There were a few areas of standing water and as the day went on some of the bunkers became a bit precarious.  But nice interesting track.

I was generally striking the ball well, but found the greens very undulating and quick - the speed and break fooled me all day really, despite the rain.  A few bad breaks cost me as the day went on.  Had two or three hitlers where I was caught too close to a high lip to get it out well even though I was generally playing the ball well out of the wet sand.

Will be interesting to load up the game golf results and see what the results were like particularly with the driver to compare with my normal.  The conditions weren't the best for good driving distance as everything was just stopping as soon as it hit, but will be interesting to have a look nonetheless.
