A young Hamis Mcdonald surveyed his beloved farm in ireland with complete dismay as he was about to endure another failed potato crop for the 3 rd season in succession. Hamish was at a cross road in 1893 and dreamed of a better life for his family and wondered where and how a better life could be found.

Hamish remembered his conversation with his good friend Harry McClavis who mentioned exotic and far flung lands across the oceans with elaborate stories about abundant harvests and lands of enormous opportunity. This was something young Hamish was going to look into.

Upon arrival in town Hamish stopped into the immigration office and enquired about making journey across the wild oceans to these wonderful lands of great bounty, upon this young Hamish was told of a unusual land called Australia. A ticket was purchased and the McDonalds were off to Australia.......

Eight torturous months of raging seas, poor winds and sea sickness consumed Hamish and his beloved family found them finally landing on Sydney Cove in very poor health. Many months passed before the McDonalds were able to prepare for the arduous journey to the great promised land which lay south. Battling bush fires and raging rivers the McDonalds fought their way to the Great Murray river system and made camp in a area which showed great promise which looked perfect for growing crops. this area is of great importance and will be home to many great achievements in the next 200 years. yarrawonga is the aboriginal name for "man standing on wrong side" :-)

Hamish McDonald was a visionary and would become one of the regions most successful farmers and some say the father of the town Yarrawonga. Hamish passed away in 1932 and left a great legacy to the McDonald family and left behind 5 sons, 112 grandchildren and a glorious farm and land holdings.

during the great flood of 1945 the Yarrawonga golf club endured damage which was the turning point for the club and the decision was made to move to the site which the club sits on today. Memebrs of the club approached Mike McDonald a direct descendant of Hamish who agreed to sell the lands upon which the Yarrawonga golf club sits upon today.

From 1945 the club flourished with 18 holes completed and play commenced and a club house was constructed. During the summer of 1967 a fire erupted in the newly renovated club house causing great destruction and the club reeled and the future looked grim. A young man George McDonald a prominent member and great grandson of Hamish approached the golf club and made a proposal. the plan was to rebuild the club and expand to 45 holes ensuring great success and longevity to the struggling gold club.

Peter Thomson was engaged in 1975 to plan and build the Murray course and construction began with great earnest. The 11th hole is a short par 5 with a magnificent tree lined fairway with lots of trouble for the errant shot off the tee.

A young Frank stepped onto the 11th tee, his muscular frame poised and ready for another magnificent drive.
The tee shot was struck beautifully and the ball flew off in to the sky, the ball started to drift left and the fade was perfectly executed and landed on the edge of the fairway nestling in the first cut of rough fter and unlucky bounce. Frank surveys the shot required and pulls out a 3 wood. the lie was not quite perfect and the shot required was very difficult for a normal person, our man Frank was no normal person, some say a athlete. the 3 wood draws back, Franks tendons straining, the ball flys off into the winter sky.....the ball drifts, the flight perfect, the birds chirping, Deano taking a sip of this beer, the ball spinning on its axis on a slight right hand bias.......FFS its drawing........omg it's drawing........Frank has hit a farking draw !!!!!!!

Folks it was a day i will never forget
