Jay, do yourself a favor and get down for a round at beacon hills. 27 hole championship golf course set in the wondrous surrounds of upper beaconsfield, it tops the must play list year in and out of melb golfing fraternity if the list of social clubs queuing up to book are any guide.
Comp tues thurs sat and Sunday and a rich club culture that welcomes one and all. With 12 month member ship at around 1200 and no joining fee. It's the best value in melb, bar none.

Beg to differ emerald golf club is offering a family package deal male ,female and child under 16 full 7 day playing rights 12 months for $1000 all you have to add is affiliation fees for anyone wanting to play comps . So basically it's 3 for the price of a male membership at any nearby club .
I know the condition of the course isn't great but we have just formed a course committee to deal with that over the coming months and I am on that committee so any constructive advice and or help will be great fully accepted .

Rossdale, Melbourne's friendliest club, and they serve a great pie at the bar.

Wow, that is a lot of clubs to consider!

Will probably try a few of them before deciding.

As for the sandbelt clubs, money is part of the issue along with getting contacts, plus I don't think I am in the stage to commit a big chunk of money to a single golf club just yet :D

Also, are there any good clubs with good introductory offers?

I'm in the same boat as the OP.

A workmate of mine and I are having a hit at Keysborough this Sunday to check it out.

The rates seem pretty reasonable, and the club has been very receptive to our enquiries.

We're both very keen to join a club in the area and Keysy is ticking the boxes so far

And you'll get direct entry into Peninsula Kingswood in a few years.

Hey guys, I live in Oakleigh so I am surrounded by golf clubs but none of them I can really join lol.
My mate and I was wanting to get recommendations for a golf club membership around the east / south east suburbs of Melbourne.
I was leaning towards the Eastern Golf Club but decided to consider other options.

Things I am looking for :

  • Private
  • Not too far (hopefully within 30 minutes from Oakleigh and Blackburn)
  • $0 or not too high joining fee
  • Annual fees in the range of $1300 - $1700 for 6 day, $1700 to $2300 for 7 day?
  • Option to pay annual feels in installments
  • Above average course and clubhouse
  • Good atmosphere
  • Option to invite guests
Also looking at good introductory/trial memberships as well.

Basically, we are looking for something like Eastern that isn't Eastern :)
We are both 29 this year.

It would be awesome if you could recommend some good ones.

I am sure Keysborough will fit the bill on 90%+ of your requirements. Phone the club but check out the website first. You won't look back.

how does southern compare to keysborough?

If the course/clubhouse quality is quite similar, I think I am leaning towards southern as it has cheaper pricing for my age group

  • 7 day full membership for 29 yo (just annual fees excluding comp fees etc)
    • Southern : $2096
    • Keysborough : $2744
  • 6 day membership for 29 yo (just annual fees excluding comp fees etc)
    • Southern : $1572
    • Keysborough : $2249

If I was over 35, Keysborough would be the cheaper option :
  • Southern : $3298 / $2474
  • Keysborough : $2744 / $2249

Also, do not need the free Cleveland full set (minus wedges) that Keysborough is offering

You may be able to negotiate the subs at Keysy down if you're not taking up the Cleveland offer

I have never been to Keysy but from what I'v heard their clubhouse is getting a bit long in the tooth, Southern rebuilt their's about 10 years ago so It's still fairly modern.

Southern is a reasonable track but no way known is it a $3300 a year track.

But you won't have to worry about that for a while yet.
