Can’t agree BL, fairways were in great condition, only problem was that I didn’t see enough of them. Greens were slower than my previous visit in November/December but my last round there was the morning of an anticipated 39* day so were heavily watered & left a bit longer, hence slower than normal. My only slight disappointment was the crappy wiry grass around the edges of the greens & the long thick rough that now exists. The course has improved a lot in the past 7-8 months & will get better. There’s been some serious money spent on course upgrades that are ongoing & people are voting with their feet now with over 200 returning members (around 80 of which have come back from Eastern). Things most certainly on the up at YM.

This morning Yering sent an email to (it seems) the whole lapsed membership from last year with a special offer to re-join. 3 months free, bonus credit to house account and a reduced subscription. Seems they’re really serious getting back on track.

Yes I have. Was expecting an invoice for the upcoming financial year (April 1st) and instead got this offer. Even better 👍

Played Yering Meadows yesterday for the first time in an issekgolf event.
Course was in very good condition and the use of the natural terrain was well thought out.
Took a while to figure out why some putts were slow and others just rolled true. Bent grass greens.
We played in 40 degree heat and it was obvious the green keeper had put on some extra water in the morning before play.
Green surround and fringes were very damp.
I admit to getting frustrated during the round due to my inability to make any decent putts but overall hindsight is a wonderful thing and the course is well worth the walk.
You would need a couple of rounds to get your strategy and course management sorted as there are a number of long par 4 and par 5 holes with lateral hazards in front of the green.
Big plus was wide immaculate fairways and bunkers in very good condition.
Only complaint was the racket of gunshots from the nearby Gun Club Range.
Would play there again no problem.

How would you compare Yering Meadows to say Heritage Golf or Eastern Golf? Would you consider joining there as a full term member? Seems to be having some good pricing structure for new members.

We play OOM games at Yering

We play OOM games at Gardiners Run

used to play at Heritage until problems

Not yet played any OOM games at Eastern..

that should tell you something

Eastern is long and the game plan is typical Norman.

smash as hard and far as you can off tee, find it and smash it again.

not much need for strategic placement as fwys are 50 to 60 m wide.

favours Iseek smashers.

vs

Yering where need to position tee shot to get a good score on hole. spray hitters loose balls in water. those players who scored well in the OOM were straight hitters who position ball

vs

heritage

when we played the OOM game at St John as a group we had a record number of lost something like 96 balls.

each to own it depends what type of course you like.

Thanks for this. Exactly the kind of informationt I was looking for. Also how would you compare the condition of the greens?

I can't comment on the quality of the greens, but I have played Eastern a couple of times and played Yering for the first time at the OOM.  I thought Eastern was okay - has some quirky holes that makes it feel like it is trying to jam the most holes in the available area even if they don't quite fit the context.  Which is probably what they are trying to do, really.  But generally good condition and some really different holes depending on where you are on the course.

I thought that Yering was a really interesting course - less "quirky" holes, but I found that the course we played was challenging and required some planning.  Of the two, for playing regularly I think I would prefer Yering.

Yering‘s professional and director of golf has resigned effective immediately. It came as some surprise. Hopefully his replacement is good.
