Hey Folks,

Anybody out there in Sydney had a go at the the first 9 holes of the new second 18 at Riverside Oaks yet? I hear it's been open a few months, with the second 9 opening later next year - making Riverside Oaks Sydney's only 36 hole golf club. The second course, called Bungool and designed by Mike Clayton, looks quite nice:

I have played it a couple of times. search  "Bungool" and you can read a few reviews on it.

It's a challenging layout, some risk/reward in there. As it "grows in" it will start to play a little better. Still a bit rough around the edges as all new courses are for a while. The third hole along the sandstone river cliffs is beautiful. On the whole very nice course. The back nine will be good when finished. they certainly are spending some cash out there.

Hey mate,

What hole is this one:
Attached File  1st Tee.jpg   192.52KB   6 downloads
Can you please explain the layout of this hole - looks fascinating.

Is it a short par 4 - where the short length to the dogleg means you either lay up with a long iron/hybrid off the tee, or blaze away with a high draw over the trees on the corner? Looks enticing.

Exactly its a dogleg right par 4 1st. No one I was with had payed it yet and everyone was overhitting including me. Needs a big cut shot 4i or 5w.

Not designed by Mike Clayton. Bob Harrison did it - and it is really good. Miles better than the original course.

Hey folks.

Just wondering if anyone has played the new 18 'bungool' in riverside oaks yet? Your feedback would be great.

Cheers

A second course, OK, has Sydney reached Pitt Town?

I remember the company I was working for put the receivers into the joint in the late 80s.

Pitt Town is in a property boom as well..land realease last week 750-800k for house blocks there. Crazy.

I havent played the new nine, hear it is a good (tighter) layout with views of the river.
Nothing makes sense, except GOATS, they ALWAYS make sense

Jaysus Schmuck, I just had a look, 850+ for house and land. 45 degrees in November, miles from anywhere, 500sqm block, I'm gonna pass.

Played all 18 of the new course and it is really good.  Max_k is right - rough around the edges, but a good layout.  As with any new course the landing zones are very important.  Impt to know when you DON'T have a shot - more than when you do.  Several holes have greens that slope away from the player, so important to know landing zones.  #1 has a very tough to hold green, so playing safe there is best.  Rough is high but will be playable as they get it cut.  Greens are firm and big slopes, so they won't be able to have them very fast to start with.  Par 3 #17 is very difficult and severe slopes on the green.  They'll have a few things to fix as they go along, but really good all in all.  Best to plan 2 rounds so you can get an angle on the lines of play and landing zones.
