Hi all!

I've recently moved up to Sydney from Melbourne and am looking to meet a few people outside of home and work.

I haven't had a hit of golf yet, and while I'm happy to play the odd round on my own, I'd love to find a social golf group willing to welcome a new member.

I've always been an irregular golfer in terms of the frequency of rounds. In my best form, I've had a few 1 over par nines, but my best 18 is still 12 over. However, without ever having had an official handicap, I generally work off around 18.

I'm living in Rushcutters Bay but would be happy to go for a long drive for a round of golf.

Anybody interested? I'd love to hear from you. I'm 36 by the way, if that makes any difference.

Dave.

You obviously never been to any of these have ya?!?!

There's around of us 20 regulars who play pretty every time, and I'm sure they'd all agree with me that's there's not many 'good folk' to be seen!!

;)
Got an issue??

Hi Dave,

Are you looking to play on the weekends or during the week?

As you will probably be aware, weekends can be tricky as most courses are tied up with competition rounds. Until daylight savings starts it will be difficult to get 18 post-competition holes in before dark.

Weekdays are much easier with most clubs having a full day per week available for social play and mid-week comps generally finish around midday.

You should also think about getting an official handicap to allow you to play open competitions with a number of normally private clubs (Pennant Hills, Monash, Oatlands, etc) running these on a monthly or quarterly basis. If you are at Rushcutters Bay, Moore Park or Eastlakes would be your best options for both social play and membership.

I'm a member at Bayview near Mona Vale but also get out to courses such as Stonecutter Ridge during the week if you are interested.

Cheers,

Michael

Many registered clubs have a social golf sub club that run regular competitions either weekly/fortnightly/monthly at different courses around Sydney (or their local area for non-Sydney readers) for their members. Most also have the odd weekend away or special trips to good courses. Try North Leagues, Drummoyne Leagues, Parramatta RSL, North Ryde RSL for starters. Fees are a lot cheaper than regular membership of a golf club and also frequently offer a variety of courses at a discount rate. The main drawback I find is that they usually play early Sunday morning.

Thanks mate - I'm more looking for clubs that let visitors play in competitions - I have a handicap that I basically can't use on weekends and as a result it hasn't changed for a year. It gets a bit frustrating. I also can't afford an inner-city Sydney membership.

(My handicap is run through an out of town country membership).
