Why are neither of these courses on the GA slope rating list. Or am I missing something?

You can't play competition rounds there so no need for a slope rating. I guess one could argue that it would be good to have a playing handicap to use for a social comps though.

I do hope that Barnbougle never get carts, its one of a number of things that make it great, unless you have a medical reason to there is no reason why you need a cart. Wished that more courses took this stance.

My understanding is that you can't have carts there because of insurance related matters. Too many steep drop-offs for idiots to drive carts off so I doubt they will ever get carts.

They don't have carts because, aside from the fact they would ruin the golf course, golf is a walking game.

I agree mate. Unless you're waaaaaaayyyyy old, or waaaaaaayyyyyy injured, or waaaaaaaayyyyyyy overweight...or playing a resort course where a buggy is mandatory, you shouldn't be using a buggy...ever. However, courses need the revenue generated from buggy hire...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever driven over the right side of the massive dune on the par 4 5th at Lost Farm? I play off high single figures and have been to Barnbougles just the once - a year ago. I hit a decently long ball - not wanker long, but longer than average for us hackers. I piped my drive on the 5th (wind was benign) over the left edge of that humongous dune and was still left with a long iron into the green. After I played there, I read somewhere that some long hitters hit their drive out over the estuary and draw it over the right side of that monster dune, and they're left with only a 60-odd metre chip into green. From what I remember...doing that would take some serious hitting....and a massive tailwind!! Anyone here tried/done it? For what it's worth, I reckon the 8th at Dunes and 5th at Lost Farm are the two hardest holes of the 38 down there....however I did par the latter - got up and down from right side of green. Just lovely places to play golf they both are...

As stated before, you can hire a cart at both but the cart is to be driven by a "guide" and you pay for his services...Mike.

never gone over it but cut it tight sometimes and going that really cuts down on the length of the hole.

played it in a long wind one day - first time I hit a 300m drive that wasn't on a downhill hole.

That 8th at Dunes can be a pussycat or a firebreathing monster - depending on the wind.  I have played my second with an 9iron and other times required a third!

I got the fire breathing monster!!

My ass is still burning from it...... From memory, flushed driver, flushed hybrid and then still had a full 9 iron in!!

Then still had to chip it in for par... ;)
Got an issue??

Here's a tissue!! 😭

Has that always been the case? Didn't see any carts at either course when I was there...
