I'm new to sydney (met with 2 forum posters jim and andrew at ryde parramatta) and looking to play in open weekday comps in sydney. So far have to admit i've been disappointed with the quality of course here. played the over rated royal sydney on monday and five days later can barely remember any holes. is that really meant to be one of the top four courses in the state.

I already know about Bonnie Doon, mondays and St Michaels, thursdays, does anyone have other suggestions for getting to play on decent courses.

When I saw the name I thought it might be you.

Take your wife's advice & move to Melbourne. laugh.gif

Hiya,

Ryde-Parramatta: Fridays
North Ryde: Tuesdays i think?

Also check out Muirfield and Oatlands if you want A-grade courses.

Fishman Dan

,

Whinge & I actually played Ryde-Parramatta on Friday & he hates Kykuyu. I don't think he had ever seen the stuff until he moved to Australia.

North Ryde is actually Wednesdays, but it's Kykuyu, as is Muirfield & Oatlands.

He's a hard task master.

Hey w/p,

Welcome aboard.

The Victorians won't believe a NSW'er is saying this, but if we are talking about true world class courses, NSW is probably the only one in Sydney. The Lakes has tournament tradition, but I think it is overrated, and you already know Royal Sydney.

Stick to the coast. I've never played them, but I suspect Long Reef and Mona Vale will be more to your liking. They have Open Days midweek. Don't play Oatlands or Muirfield if you didn't like the Ryde-Parramatta fairways.

Almost anywhere inland in Sydney will have kikuyu fairways (which I like, but I guess you have to grow up with them).

Why not join us at Camden Lakeside next Sunday (couch fairways)? It's a long drive from where you are staying, but on a Sunday the traffic won't be too bad.

See the ISG Golf Days section for full details.

Here i am, plain and simple golfer-dan. I think I've been introduced to a new HO - "the golf course carpet" HO. To be honest, I wouldn't know the difference, but i just aspire to play on decent courses. Unfortunately my 'occupation' gets in the way. Damn it.

Typically, every course i suggested was struck off your list. Off to do some homework, i'll come back with some you might appreciate biggrin.gif

There is the NSW Golf Assoc. website (http://www.nswga.com.au), which you can list courses by Open Comp day (click on the 'Where to Play" link - however i am not too sure how regularly it is updated.

I posted a review in the courses section if you want to read that smile.gif

but yeah basically SO dry , there were mounds of clay/soil on the fairways oin some places.. big holes in the middle of the grounds..

really a shame - because i know the course has potential to be really nice! i went to school @ muirfield high and it was always looking good then! (altho i hated golf at the time  )
