Furthermore Matt, I can add to JJ's post that you have missed the subtle humor in his post, in that there is one in our midst who has been known to comment of the quality of a course, after muttering 'No I haven't played it, but I saw the course, as I was in the carpark'. A gentle dig at a fellow ISGer, which may have pre-dated you.

JJ is certainly not in the habit of making flippant or rash statements. As much as he's colourful, he's informed, and considered.

Matthew

I've played it. I don't like it. I think they need more than the pitiful four course staff they currently have to at least present the course well. The big problem is that the greens are ordinary until they are cut, and on some days they are (late morning), and others they aren't. I told them on the day that on what we saw before the mowers came out, we wouldn't recommend membership to anyone. It was much more pleasant though when the greens were cut. Not for speed, but just for trueness.

As for the layout, my playing partners liked some holes, and overall enjoyed their round. I didn't mind it, and can't claim it was a waste of a day. Especially at the giveaway rates at the moment.

I'd play there again, but wouldn't like somebody to suggest I actually try and get there twice a year, every year. Just the occasional corporate day.

Rather than make yet another thread about HV, or have the course guide I propose get lost amongst the OOM threads, I shall resurrect this one. It's interesting to read the older reviews as well. Over the next few weeks, prior to the ISG OOM Day at Hidden Valley I plan on doing a "Hole a Day" course review based on our practice round on Saturday. Hopefully it will be of some use. Stay tuned for Hole 1 at lunch time today.

1st Hole

Distance: 366m (Whites) Index: 11 A pretty solid opening hole right here. Tee shot is largely shaped by the line of gums on the left. Meaning if you have a fade for RHs (like myself) or draw for LHs you are in a lot of strife getting the ball on the short stuff. There is a bit of space out right past the line of trees before you hit OOB (or Lefty Tiges Territory as it’s known). Also the hole plays up hill, about the only hole on the course to do this, so you’ll need some extra club. There are two fairway bunkers on the corner of the dogleg right, so big hitters may need to be wary. Off the Whites these are around 215m up the hill. From there, it’s a mostly blind approach shot to a somewhat benign green. It actually doglegs around more than you expect so if you’ve got a cart and enough time, be cheeky and get a quick glimpse of the green. Front left trap isn’t too penal. But it will be a decent length shot so you're going to be needing to be on your longer irons straight off the bat. It’s rated 11 primarily because of it’s length and danger left and bunkers right in the landing zone. It’s a daunting start but has friendly finish. Should be a solid 2ptr for most. Smerg's Tip: Get your tee shot away safely and into the right spot.

I'm thinking this may be a common theme.

Possibly, but on some holes other bits will be more pertinent I think...

Unlikely... my hole went "power fade to A1 position. Crush 3 wood to 80m. Fluff a wedge, duff a chip on and two putts for two points." I will however mention doing a "Vijay Stink" on 13 though...

thought you were going to hold the review back due to the weather we had to endure. Or maybe you are telling a few fibs in this review so to make people hit it in the wrong spot. Hmmm clever keep it going.
