I'll field this one LH...no...it isn't.

:-). If settlers is just as punishing, i cant see a problem with it. Just an observation. ;-)

LH

as Goldy said its not on OOM list at this stage.

The OOM committee are always on look out for new courses that could take a group of our size and provide a challenge

I tested out Manadaly  with dancer earlier this year.

Great course to play, not punishing for low markers but hard on high marker,

Dancer really had a hard time,(naga type score) me about 34 or 35 I think

too far out 20 min more than Le Frogge.

no practice facilities. (not even a putting green).

no where to gather to do presentation.only a wreckair hire shed.

plus the 13th tee is miles away from 1st so no way a shot gun start. .

long walking course so would have to cart it.

so at this stage its a no from me also.

We will keep looking.

Travel time from CBD to Mandalay is about the same as Settlers and Heritage, all a bit far for me sorry to say. Lack of facilities probably more of a negative.

I noticed that Mandalay debuted at 56 in the top 100 public access courses in Oz coming in 35 places ahead of Growling Frog, which I would've thought was the course its competing with for punters in the outer north

Good result for the course, albeit surprising to me.

The Frog has lost a few players to Mandalay...mostly around issues with the archaic course membership payment conditions that are currently in place by the local council.

Benny (kickithome) has played out there...the rough is way too difficult for the average punter in his opinion.

I've played it twice and agree the rough is brutal. Far too penal for the weekend warrior I thought

Also didn't find the layout overly inspiring. Nice, but not amazing. I didn't walk off thinking "wow, what a layout."

I still prefer the Frog as a course, but I don't know anything about the club side of things.

Yeah, I've heard that too, FB. It was described to me as a bit "straight up and down".

The club side of the Frog is fine...it's the course membership which is governed by Whittlesea council that is the problem. Up front payment of annual fees, no pro rata rates...it's not the pro-shop's fault, or anything to do with the golf club at the course.

It'd still take something exceptional for me to want go anywhere else to join.

Played there 6 weeks ago and was not overly amazed. I mean it was well conditioned and fun but nothing special a few good par 3's and the back had some fun holes.

We lost a few balls in the rough, It was pretty tough having balls that only just dribble into the rough go missing cause there was no first/second cut to hold it up. I came out with more balls than i went in with but probably risked a few snakebites stomping around in the rough.

I heard that they were working on thinning out some of the rough but there is so much rock on that land they cannot risk cutting it yet, They have a rock crusher onsite so will be constantly working on that.

By all accounts it is snake central out there.

I’ve heard from two unrelated people that they have a fairly active snake population. A guy I work with has a mate who lives in one of the surrounding houses and is apparently ‘constantly’ finding snakes in his back yard (which backs onto the course).

The second time I had a hit there the pro specifically warned us to tread carefully as they’d been pretty active of late as the weather warmed up. That really put the wind up me. It did have one positive effect though- we got round in near record time as neither me, nor my playing partner, had too much interest in hunting for anything that went too deep into the rough… because we’re big pansies!!!

So Lukos, if you found any Q Stars marked with a red A scrawled over the Srixon branding you can forward them on to me if you’d like J. I reckon I donated at least 10 that day.

Played there yesterday for the first time.

Condition was good, actually better than what I expected. Would be a brutal course off the back blocks on a windy day though.

New clubhouse opens in a few weeks (could see furniture inside so isnt that far off) practice green is layed out but will be some months away. No practice fairway is a big miss in my books. Hitting balls in the nets just isnt the same.

But for $37 being in the comp, I thought it was pretty good value.

Played today.

Pros: clubhouse, course condition, greens are amazing- true and great condition.

Cons: usual long walks between tees due to housing development, no driving range, too many holes that are straight with bunkers left and right. No great variance throughout the course. No water taps. They had two large esky style water containers that provided water- one had bugs in it.

Would play again as. Better condition than the frog but the Frog has it for variation.

Who would believe that of a Thomson-Perritt design.  A better maintained Sandhurst by the sound of it.
