Almost had my first hole in one - 8i hit the flag rolling but didn't drop 😥
8 pars 5 bogies 5 doubles
6/14 fairways- dropped 3 shots from drives, a push into trees, a hook into a hazard, and a slight pull draw that managed to finish in a bush (aimed left edge)
7 GIR + 4 Texas- dropped 2 shots from a 5i punch into a tree into a hazard, 1 1/2 from bad iron shots and 1 from a thin PW - so 4 1/2 all up
4/11 up and downs - dropped 6 1/2:
1/2 8i
0/2 AW
0/1 SWS
0/1 LW - 1/2 a shot because the 5i off the tee before was a huge push to poor ground behind a bunker
2/4 Texas
33 putts - 1 3 putt - putted ok but usually too soft on slow bumpy greens (which are getting cored tomorrow
Overall there was some good golf, a bit of bad luck (2 flags hit by rolling balls and neither dropped), and some rubbish including 4 doubles in a row from 11 to 14 which included 2 par 5s
Next week BF at Gailes so hopefully play better
Dropped 0.3 to 10.6

1 8i chip from 15m short to 2ft and down
2 texas from over the green rolled 3ft past and down
3 LW pitch over a bunker towards the water was too soft but well struck to 20ft
7 3rd shot on par 5 was SW bunker shot from 30m short of the green and played conservatively from the firm sand so finished short, then AW chip stopped fast and finished 15ft short
8 AW pitch from 50m was a bit thin and rolled off short, then texas up and down (didn't count the texas in stats above so was actually 5/12)
10 texas was weak and 10ft short
11 8i chip up the bank was too soft to 25ft
12 AW pitch from 50m rolled left but pin high so no compliants
13 after a hugely pushed 5i finished behind the bunker under the trees the attempted LW lob was too hard and AW chip back landed on the wrong side of the ridge and stayed high
14 SW bunker shot was ok but didn't run out to the pin
15 Another weak texas but was a loooong one on the slow greens
16 texas to 3ft and down
18 8i chip hit the flag but didn't drop, 3ft putt back did a 360 and dropped
Overall not many bad shots and some very good ones so I'm happy with progress, but a long way from where I need to be

From inside 20 metres you've got a pretty good ratio but from outside that distance it falls away ?
Rather than hit it harder take one more club and make the same swing, see what happens. It should roll out better ?

I work between lob gap 8 and 5 for chipping so where I think it's best I will take the lower loft and run it - none of them on Sunday involved landing it on the green (apart from the lob wedge ones) so it's not much about the same swing but more club, it's about touch as every swing was a different length

In the up & down stats, are the ones that finish short mostly uphill ?

I wish I had taken your advice on the last hole yesterday. I used a 9 iron approach and got it on the green O.K. , but it was a 40 m uphill putt over a shoulder. 4 putts later!!! Mutter , mutter, mutter. I didn't have an 8 iron, but the 7 iron would have got me level with the pin and been a lot easier. I was trying to leave myself uphill putts, but that was a bit much.
I did get it right earlier with a chip uphill . I normally would have used my SW, but I tried the GW instead. It rolled up the hill straight at the pin. I was getting all excited about a birdie, but it lipped out and finished 150mm from the hole.
Keep giving Weetbix advice please Jon. Even if he doesn't use it, I will.

I can spell reasonably well, even if in American at times. I cannot type well , so please look for the key I intended to use within one key of the strange one I used.
