Weeti, do you need to do more manual labour? Didn't you play better back when you were sore from the back yard renovations?

Sometimes I did

But I had some shockers after that too

So pretty much normal golf for me

Yesterday I felt I played ok but the course definitely penalised your mistakes - the fairways are narrow and the trees and slight doglegs on most holes mean that you usually don't have a full recovery shot. And the greens were very challenging - our winner on the day had 40 putts.

Robinator had 80 off the stick at Palm Meadows on Saturday and then managed 29 points on Sunday - it's a genuinely tough layout. I really enjoyed it. Had 1 really lucky break where I went through a tree with just a few clipped leaves and finished pin high on the green. But otherwise if you mishit it it was most times a shot gone.

I think if you were a member there not only would you have thighs like Arnold but you'd have a very solid game. It's not long overall but it's a 5500m par 70 off the blues. The par 5s are very tough to make in 2. The short par 3 is a tiny green with nowhere easy to miss, and the other 2 pars 3s average are 170m and 200m each - and swap lengths when you play them the second time. There is 1 short par 4 under 300 through a huge valley and with OOB left and thick trees right and a very slopey green. The mid length par 4s are wedge or short iron approaches after a decent tee shot but up steep hills and with more slopey greens. So it doesn't feel like it gives you much leeway.

Running through my short game yesterday:

2 AW chip to 2ft and my only counted down (had a couple of texas shots that were so close to being on 1 counted them as putts)
4 AW chip from around 40m was too soft and didn't get down the hill enough, second AW chip was too firm and rolled 20ft past
5 AW chip across a steep hill was just a bit soft as was the texas that followed
6 8i chip from a downhill lie through a valley up a steep slope to the green was a bit long but that was the plan as short would have been a disaster
7 Texas over a hill was how I planned it but the slope took it way past the hole - a drop to the short game but where I was short sided it would have taken a miracle shot to get close
10 LW chip from 10m short of the green up the steep bank was a very good shot to 10ft or so - happy with that
14 Back to the short par 3 and after another rubbish wedge from the tee I got too much of my attempted lob and went over the green and through a bunker. Attempted lob off a downhill lie with not much grass was also thin, as was the attempted miracle lob back up for a point
15 AW chip hopped straight right on its first bounce and stopped short of the the green
16 LW pitch from around 35m was ok but short up the hill
18 LW pitch 3rd shot from about 55m was very good but just missed the 10fter for birdie

Great and enjoy reading Weetbix. Thank you!

Strategic and course management, Is it come with experience with the more you play naturally? I tend to struggle on the 1st time if I golf on a new course. Even though, I do my research course layout. The bounces and distance of hazard around the green are my weakness.

Enjoy reading your strategic and the executions. :)

That's Della

Playing a different course every week as I do does add to the challenge. Even those courses I do play quite a lot - like Carbrook - you have general plans for but nothing like a member.

So, basically a good track to use a cart and take plenty of beers to soothe the frustration?

Undulations affected approach shots and recovery shots adds a whole other element.

Perhaps the bigbutt* practice area needs modification to bring in some such features?

Not enough space there for that much creativity. It does have a substantial hump on one side so I need to work in a way to practice different chips onto it to get different reactions

Not much to say about today's game at Sanctuary Cove Palms

I did have a birdie

But the main story was pretty much anytime I had a wedge shot inside 80m I blew it, resulting in 4 9 shots holes (3 on par 4s and 1 on a par 5 So that is 19 over). I finished with 102 net 90 which was 32 over - so 13 over for the other 14 holes which is pretty rubbish as well.

6 3 putts - 5 in the first 5 holes

Started double bogie 5 and a pair of quintuple bogie 9s on 13, 14 and 15 so my handicap of 12 was gone after 3 holes

Then managed a 3 putt bogie followed by another 9 and then a bogie for 19 over on 5 holes

Had a triple and a quad on the 2 par 5s on the front nine which was most of my 11 over for that nine

Then finished the back nine with bogie, 3 putt bogie and par

Basically an unmitigated disaster for the first round of club champs. It's a best 3 of 4 so not over but basically over
