Range session this arvo of 300 balls. Strengthened the grip but was still more pushy than straight. Eventually I tried really loosening my grip on the club - so everything felt very loose and relaxed. Was a good move and really straightened up the ball flight.

Sunday is the Wynnum Open so we will see if it stays that way!

You wont need driver often there.......looking for a rebound in scoring. :)

Out of interest, how many days would one put aside to hit 300 balls at a range?

How many hours does it take you to hit 300 balls? What is the process? Just hit, scrape, repeat? Or do you go through your entire pre shot routine before each pill? Interested to find out.

Took about 2 1/2 hours

I don't do my full routine because I don't need to choose my aiming line - it's the same for every shot. But otherwise it's the normal routine.

Basically it was just trying a few things to see how they affected contact and ball flight. I'm focussed on consistency and keeping the flight fairly straight, preferably with a draw bias. I want the draw bias because my punch shots always draw so I'm generally better getting into trouble on the left as it makes recovery shots easier.

So yesterday I started testing a slightly stronger grip as Sunday was a push fest. Was better but still pushy. I could set up with the face looking closed which straightened things up but I struggle to feel good over the ball when I'm set up like that - just looks wrong.

So decided to see how loosening my grip pressure affected it. And it made a huge difference to the ball flight - much straighter. I discovered that late in my first bucket and a half so decided to go another bucket and a half (Tee Time does a free small bucket with every large bucket on weekdays before 6pm).

The second bucket and a half was just working through different clubs to see how they went. I like to test with short iron, hybrid, driver, long iron and wedge. And pitching. They were all pretty decent so happy with that. Don't think I got any huge pushes or hooks.

My approach at the moment is that I want to build a swing that works well for wedges and short irons most importantly. I'm happy to take that and have to adjust my aim for longer club's if needed. So maybe I get a very straight shot up to 9 iron but then it starts to get more and more draw as I move up the bag, then I'll just aim right more and more. The wedges and short to mid irons are where I feel the score is, at least from a full swing perspective. The rest of the bag is about avoiding trouble and giving your shorter clubs and short game a chance.

In the 300 yesterday I probably hit about 40-50 pitches, the rest full swings.

Ok fair enough. That seems like a lot though, I'd get fatigued. Especially in 2.5 hours. That's a ball every 30 seconds.

I normally do half that. Didn't feel fatigued which was a surprise - thought I would be and thought I might be a bit tight today but feel fine.

300 balls isn’t that many for an octopus, only 75 balls for each set of arms.

Only three to choose from, and from the visitor tees, they're eminently reachable.

Two at about 450m and the other about 420m.....hell, they're just drive and pitch holes for someone who regularly crushes it over 250m+.  :P

Anyway, it's the sneaky short par fours and testing par threes (if the fan is blowing) that can bring one undone.  ;)
