Just got back from the 36 hole Centenary Open, and first game there in almost 10 years, and not much has changed. Still a great course, fairways like carpet and the greens were awesome. Had it not been for the downpour we received overnight the greens would have been crazy fast. Still by far the best course in the North-West.

Any update on what’s happening with course changes and proposed sale of practice fairway.

2 years on and it's still the same.

Other than during the wet winter months Northern is in excellent condition. Easily the best course north of the Yarra and membership is very cheap.

A nice track would have joined in 2004 if the waiting list wasn't so long at that time, although these days I couldn't be stuffed driving that far. My cousin is a member and he plays very infrequently. He is a bloody fool spends too much time watching his beloved tigers instead of playing golf.

if I had put my name down at that time I would have gotten 7 day in a few months, early in 2004 they wanted some cash so they cleared the waiting lists.

I really like Northern. After a round there, you always feel like it was a pleasant day. I will be joining there in a few years when I get the chance to get my value for money- ie: kids grow up and leave....so should be a member in about 2043.

update waiting list is short, reason being members who had been there for more than 50 years had free membership = not any more moreland council stopped the club's plans to build on practice fairway. moreland council will buy practice fairway and build an open space park with netball courts and play area's. club will change holes 8, 9 & 10. build another (fenced) range that drivers can be used on a practice green a practice area think a 19th hole too bunker reno's under way have a desal plant for year round water if needed. money left over to go into trust for the club's future. a good future a head

Most of the extra room is the trees between the existing 9th and 10th holes. There is also a heap of space behind the current 8th green, this is being extended to make it a par 5.

As a member I'm certainly looking forward to the changes, without too much disruption, unfortunately though if the Bunker reconditioning program is anything to go by, it may be a long and arduous exercise. Let's hope this thing gets moving in the next 12-18 months so it's all go for the 2014/2015 summer. It's also good to have a bit of a war chest to gradually improve facilities, like the Bar and clubhouse need a good update. Still a great track!
