Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Lord Howe Island GC

Got it…..it’s on the north side of the southern end????

I’ve played it, it’s a bit of fun. There is a cool little par.3. (about 8 I think) on the other side of the road with a blowout bunker that is a very attractive and fun golf hole.

Topic: Golf Talk / Penninsula Course Suggestion

You do realise that Moonah Links and 13th Beach are on completely different peninulars don’t you?

One is Mornington, one is Bellarine. Opposite sides of the bay completely.

You will need to get the ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff, otherwise they are 3 hours apart by road.

Awesome hole

Why would it have been said? It’s a par.3.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Any 9-scr using I10's

Srixon 506’s are wide-soled heavy shovels – the 302’s and 701 tours are both considerably better clubs for a lower marker, both are excellent.

If you are thinking MP-57’s then have a good look at the new Titleist AP2’s also, fantastic clubs. IMO the 2 best players cavities on the market. Both are new and both cost some money, but budget doesn’t seem to be a huge issue.

If you want bargain forged players cavities get 10 sets of Cobra SS Forged before you get 1 set of Srixon 506’s.

Place your tips here for when Tony Cashmore’s next post will be in this forum. The last one was on August 20th 2007 – I’ll start the ball rolling with September 11th 2009.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Pennants

1) >

3) When you are close together on the fairway or from a par three tee, and you have the honour, use a couple of clubs longer than you normally would, swing a bit easier and then make a point of “how well you hit that one” to get it there, making sure they can see what club you have used

You have got to be kidding!!! What dodgy golf magazine did you read that in?

Cliched matchplay tips make me laugh. Why would you ever hit a shot you are not comfortable hitting?? and with the wrong club?? Do you seriously believe that a guy playing pennant will not know how far he hits each club – and then fall for that rubbish. If someone did that to me I would be rolling around on the ground laughing.

And why would you ever give someone a putt if you think they may miss it – what does it matter if it’s the 1st or 18th hole?? They don’t give you 2 holes for every hole won on the back nine.

Next someone will give you a tip that you should hit 3-wood off the tee so that you can hit your approach shot first to put pressure on your opponent. Another one straight out of the ‘dodgy matchplay tips 101’ guide.

. i know someone who’s played it, who has also played some of the great courses in the world and he says this tops them all.

He is a bloody awful judge of a golf course then!

Topic: Golf Talk / are there any special requirements to work in pro shops/ golf stores

If you can speak complete and utter crap and get people to believe you, that is all you need.

I love going into golf shops and hovering around the staff giving someone ‘advice’ – very funny. It’s a kind of sport in itself for me

Topic: Golf Talk / NSW OPEN

O.K. for the first 2 days it was Pro’s only playing, the cut was made at +5 which left 59 Pro’s to complete the final 2 days for the trophy. Over the final 2 days, the Pro’s were joined by a number of amateurs who paid $$$$’s for the privilege of playing with the Pro’s.

I am not aware of any handicap limit for the amateurs. There only limit was how much money they had in the bank or whether they were part of the sponsors. (I can’t be sure of this as I sure didn’t have the $$$’s to be a party to it)

There were top level amateurs playing in the tournament also that didn’t pay anything. They would have been either invited by the NSWGA (normally State team players get invited to their state open) or pre-qualified. Handicap cut-off for pre-Q would be about 2 or 3.

Completely different to the paying amateurs who would have only been part of a pro-am/handicap side-event. And I’m sure they would not have been playing stroke.

Distances to the front of greens is clearly the best system, no idea why any course does it to the middle.

Tad harsh on Blizard, you don’t win the Australian Amateur as a hacker.

Harsh but fair. He did win it on his home course.

Not suggesting he is no good, but I agree he is still a fair way off the standard required to become a successful pro.

Tim Stewart has a very impressive record the past 2.5 years, and runner-up in the British Amateur puts him at #1 for me.

He will have a better career than Kulacz IMO.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Beginner using Crocker Golf System

If you have dropped your average putts from 4 per hole to 2 per hole, you are 36 shots better off now.

Your scores have reduced on average by 23 shots.

Therefore your ball-striking is on average 13 shots worse. I would stick with the putting lessons and get a new swing coach ;-)

Seriously…....are such ads necessary in a forum section?? If so, there really should be a separate forum for TGM and CGS stuff.

I hate to say ETA’s as they tend to change every day but I would hope by October 1.

What year?

Topic: Golf Talk / Sandbelt membership costs

I’d recommend heading south bound personally. To a course ranked in the top 26(hint hint). Very short waiting list, good deals for people less than 35 years of age with no waiting list. Friendly members and good atmosphere. Don’t need to know anyone either.

Yes you do
