Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Warragul

Is this history repeating itself? Specky, did a former Warragul greenkeeper have difficulty keeping the couch sprigs alive also? And were these modifications designed by committee rather than architect?

This subject has been quiet for a while, as have I, having been off the General Committee for the past 18 months.
Last week it was reported on the front page of our local paper that there is Ministerial approval for the rezoning. This means the process is underway and the project has full backing of the Club and local council. There is still a lot to do before the dream becomes reality, but there is genuine excitement down here.

It has huge potential. The two redeveloped holes will be down the list of interesting holes if Ross has his way and if the project gets up. There is growing interest in the whole thing. We are on a sandbelt 20km from the ocean.
I'll try somthing to allow the photos to be accessible. Please bear with my lack of IT expertise.

I have posted a few photos of the redeveloped holes. Again they are not Scarletti and I didn't have one handy of the 5th green complex. Perhaps in the next few weeks.
You will get the general idea of the holes anyway. Vegetation (hedge wattle) has since been planted along the fenceline of the 5th. Speargrass has been planted randomly also. The final "look" of both holes has yet to be completed with vegetation to be planted and grasses to consolidate etc.
Pity it was a cloudy day when I took the photos.

Here is the link (I hope this works)

Thank you for the review Jeffrey. I am the Sale Golf Club Commmitee member Specky kindly refers to. Apart from mixing a few lefts with rights in your description it is pretty close to the mark.
We removed 120 mature pines and cypresses that were obstructing the view of the wetlands and created two very good fun golf holes. They are not yet 12 months old.
The 5th ("Temptation") has the heroic carry of 200m flirting with the OOB on the right with the stunning wetlands down the escarpment. Otherwise diagonal bunkering that must be carried ( 160m at shortest) or played as close as possible to get best angle to the green. Slopes and mounding may be more challenging than what may usually be seen but it works very well. With a prevailing westerly, the hole is short enough to still hit driver/medium iron under the wind to make par on the windiest of days.
The 6th ("Legends") is a medium iron par 3 with classic rugged bunkering on the right. One 10 marker and many veterans play always to the large apron at the front, avoiding all trouble around the green and chip on. At worst 4. Not many par 3s that deliver that strategic choice?
The redevelpment is in early stages but has full member support.
I'll post some photos when I work out how to do it.

I am a member at Sale and am impressed at the knowledge this group has about our course. The two redeveloped holes have been open for a few months and there have been very favourable comments about the evolution and conditioning of the course over the past 2 years from members and visitors alike. As for further work, there is every liklihood that more will happen so we may be able to take full advatage of our sand base and brilliant views.
