Yep thanks

Yes, he’s good, I just don’t seem to be good at listening I expect.
I try and straighten it at impact, but I have struggled with it a bit. Some days it seems ok, some it doesn’t

Thanks, the Callaway centre is not far from me, and will get out to the Custom Golf Shop at Burwood as well, cheers

Yes I know, I have a great coach but I don’t listen

I think it’s caused by not releasing the right wrist at impact, so the club head isn’t straight at impact

A slice is caused by an open club face in relation to the path of the club head. Just change them both.

OB, any ideas how I can get rid of my slice off the tee and fairway woods???

Ping G25 driver
Cleveland 52, 58 deg wedges
Putter: Odyssey Versa 90 #7 putter
Brosnan Taipan 4i-SW, 3W, 5W, 3H
Balls: Srixon Z star yellow + Vision yellows
Favourite shot: 110m out from the hole with my PW (hitting green 70% now)

You have a coach and he hasn’t got rid of your slice?

Suggestion: get a coach who knows what he’s doing.
Or, perhaps he does know but you don’t follow directions?

Toppy, when you buy a set of Callaways, they arrange for your appointment at the fitting centre.

Thanks guys

Hmmm, will go have a look then, sounds great. Imagine it would be a big thing to be fitted then get out and play with them, confidence wise as well as any tangible stroke play benefits

Toppy, go and get fitted by a reputable club fitter. It is unlikely that the sales rep at your local golf mega store is very proficient at fitting.

Tell us what area you live in and someone will know of a good club fitter you can get to.

Once you have the specs for what will suit you, you can then shop around for the best deal. The usual deal is that you pay for the fitting and that fitter will offer a discount should you choose to buy your clubs from him.

After I obtained my fitting details, I bought mine from Fergo in USA.

This is something that I want to get done but I was never sure where to go in Sydney that I could pay and they would give me the specs without any pressure. Can anyone recommend somewhere?

Hey mate,

Try The Custom Golf Shop in Burwood. . They opened back in Feb – it’s the Scot and Pommy blokes who used to operate Sydney Olympic Park Driving Range in Homebush. Both are PGAs. They’re housed in the old police station near Burwood train station. It’s a smallish interior (it’s only a smallish operation at this stage), but they’ve got it well stocked with heaps of gear, particularly if you dig your Mizuno gear. They’ve got the set up with the three screens (front, left, right) that capture all your swing data, and a video camera records your swing for playback on one of these screens.
It’s a pretty cool little place and the blokes are lovely. Of course, they’ll charge you for a fitting, but then it’s up to you. A mate did this, whereas I spent about 90mins in there a few weeks ago chatting to Andy and seeing if my irons needed adjusting. I’d say check it out for sure mate…

Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.

Thanks Fuzzy

I do know of them however I haven’t been into the shop. Ill head down in the next week and get it done.

Toppy, I went to the Custom Golf Shop at Burwood as mentioned above by Fuzzy.
I think it’s $50 for the fitting but I didn’t pay it as I ordered the recommended clubs.
The link you posted matches the heads of my irons but I got steel shafts and there are many shaft options. The fitting will make sure you get suitable shafts. I paid $140/club after belting balls for about 2 hours. Andy was very thorough and I enjoyed my time there.
I would certainly recommend the place. I placed my order on the Tuesday and picked up the clubs the following Tuesday. I was so happy with the clubs on the range I rang Andy from the range to order the 4iron and gap wedge. I usually shop around for the lowest price but I was so happy with the service I thought they deserved my business.

Thanks OB, that’s great

I live just south of the airport in Sydney so there’s a power golf near me in Alexandria, and Drummond at Taren Point. I also work in the CBD.

I am also loyal to the guys at Golf Mart in the city, because they’ve always been good to me and given me discounts off the bat without me needing to ask

But, if there’s a professional fitter external to someone like that, that’s truly impartial to any brand, or a particular store or option you guys recommend, then happy days

I also think my “standard issue set” fairway woods and hybrid are too “regular” for me with my swing speed, hence slicing these a bit lately.

Does swing speed vs shaft flex translate into irons as well, or are they different because they’re shorter etc? I’m hitting my standard set irons pretty well now vs the fairway woods (my set is a Brosnan Taipan), but still keen to step up soon on the irons in particular, once I can afford to ,so keeping costs low is important, but I don’t want to buy a sub par set now and have to upgrade again later

Rodent, and others.
I keep hearing about the Mizuno irons, and the JPX

Also like the Ping G25 irons and another one I can’t remember

Are these the ones you just got rodent, if not where and how much if you don’t mind me asking?

http://www.golfbox.com.au/Mizuno-JPX-825-Pro-Irons-Graphite-Shafts_p_209975.html

I’m really starting to think about upgrading, my swing speed is around 100mph, handicap is 15 now and my goal is to get to single figures within the year

I hit my irons fairly straight, with a bit of a draw at times
My driver is a Ping G25 stiff 9.5 and using Cleveland RTX 588 wedges if that helps

Open to suggestions on what might be right and where to buy

I agree about the feedback it definitely sharpens your focus when you blade one. I want that feedback though I feel I need it to get better.

I’ve joined the Mizuno club with my new JPX-825 pro irons with KBS Tour stiff shafts arriving yesterday. I couldn’t wait to hit them so went to the range last night. I’m impressed. I can’t wait to game them but I’m pretty sure they’ll be a hit.

Manikato …....

One thing about playing the MP line …....... it will help to remind you of the difference between good and average ball striking.

GI’s on the other hand, may not have provided the same high degree of feedback for you …. so the learning curve may be quicker, due to using the more precise clubs.

One thing though … I reckon you should always have something in your hands that you like the look of …....... so happy golfing with them :-)

Getting back into golf after 20yrs. Used to have Cobra blades back in the day.

Bought a cheap set this time just to put my toe in the water and see if I wanted to go further again.

After a few lessons and practice the bug has bit again. Traded cheap irons in on 2nd hand Mizuno Mp combo set in mint condition. 4-6 mp53 7-9 mp59.

Tried a few of the new GI irons from the big names. But kept coming back to the 2nd hand Mizuno’s.

Gotta say Best moves I ever made was getting lessons and buying these irons.

When I was umming and rring about which way to go. I wasn’t making consistent contact and the GI Irons were probably the way to go. However I just felt really positive at address when looking down at the Mizuno’s and the weight seemed to be perfect.

They are still above my playing ability but I am narrowing that gap and the feel I get when hitting a nice crisp one well that will do me.

This thread actually peaked my interest in mizuno and I am glad it did.
