Topic: Sports Talk / Didak - unsubstantiated rumours start

Interesting isn’t it. There would certainly appear to be more to it than the general public know about.

For me it is pretty simple (and yes I’m a pies supporter, and very biased).

If Didak met Hudson that night for the first time, then so be it, he is a fool and has drinking problems, but no more action should be taken, since he did not break the law or published team rules. Not saying his decision making is not questionable of course ;-) (Not going into the link between Didak not reporting the incidents, and the death of the poor fellow in Melbourne)

If however, it can be proven that he was a known associate of Hudsons, then he is gone.

The way the story stands at the moment, he is on paper thin ice at the club. From what the police are saying, they know the ice is much thinner than that, but want to get something via the public (as you suggest Lizzie) to help their case.

Looks pretty good to me – if he was selling fake gear, feedback would definitely reflect it. 100% at the moment with 700+ responses.

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf Channel

I emailed them earlier on in the week to see if there was anyway to get copies of the Big Break. No response so far – so I doubt I’ll hear from them at all.

If any of you haven’t seen an episode it is a great concept and very entertaining viewing.

If anyone knows where I could find a torrent…...... of information about the BigBreak episodes. I’d be very interested….......

Topic: Golf Talk / Do the pros "cheat"?

I can honestly say that I have never once consciously thought about not stepping on a playing partners through line. If I was a pro playing on tour, on greens that were mowed and rolled each day, and rolling at 12 on the stimp meter, I could understand. However even at a private course where the greens are cut on comp morning, I don’t think that someones through line is a real consideration, given the general green speed and condition of most courses.

In addition, given the skill of your average weekend golfer, an indentation on a green as a result of someone standing on a players line, is a 50% chance of straightening the putt as opposed to sending it offline

Spike marks are a different situation…...........

Topic: Sports Talk / Collingwood 2007

I was at the game – albeit in the nosebleed section.

The movement of the pies was exceptional all night. They streamed out of defence and had so many players running forward that the Swannies just couldn’t get a flowing brand of footy going all night.

- The set-up for the opposition kick ins was substantially improved over two weeks ago against the Dees. - Hall just dropped his bundle, and looked like a hack. - The job that goldsack did on O’Loughlin was brilliant – his closing speed is fantastic. - Travis Cloke has the yips. I think he needs to go right hand low or us the claw grip - Goodes is a dirty bastard – always sniping off the packs - Pies should have won by 10 goals. Not going to be able to get away with such poor kicking when the games are a little tighter – i.e. Melbourne

Topic: Golf Talk / Do the pros "cheat"?

I’m with Fishy here, I’ve never seen a pro even come close to stepping on the hole. They will always avoid standing on an opponents line, and generally avoid standing on the through line as well (i.e. where the ball is likely to go if it misses the hole).

Topic: The Lounge / Outlook Express Help

My 10c is to go with Thunderbird – it’s an open source email client – I’ve been using it for ages now, and never had any issues. Also avoids a lot of potential MS related virus/spyware/malware issues….

Do you use dialup? If so, that could be contributing to the problem, because OE could be trying to upload the messages to the server, and getting itself in a funk.

One thing to try (dialup or not) is to disconnect the internet connection and then start OE, hopefully it will startup report the lack of server connectivity, and then let you get into the folder list and remove all the large entries in the outbox

Hi Admin.

Would be handy if you could create a link when creating a new post.

The link button is there for additional posts, but not when create a new Topic.

I.e. you can see that both our posts word wrap correctly now. But If I was to insert a wide image or long un-spaced string – the words would not start to wrap until the end of the string or image.

Spanky, I think this is an issue with people posting either images or URLs that are wider than the alloted space (before you run into the ads).

I use Firefox, and only see this problem in the circumstances described above – I think (presume) it does it with IE as well.

Topic: Golf Talk / well done angel

I think his putt on 17 was pretty good as well – he was clearly rattled, very very easy to pull it or push it – particularly given how handsy he is with his natural swing.

Topic: Golf Talk / US Open Bets

He was asked that in one of the post round interviews. He said that he had hit driver quite a few times during the week (I think he was implying that he had tried a few options in practice rounds), and that he had never been able to hit it far enough to cut the angle off like he did.

Mis-judgement either way you look at it, and probably cost him at least a crack at a playoff – if not the open.

Cookie can get VERY loud – raucous in fact.

Pearl on the other hand is classy and sophisticated – however it is 15min out of the CBD.

Not comparing apples and apples really.

Topic: Golf Talk / Oakmonster?

Re the 8 for 0 Virge, is there a simple reason in your opinion?

I’d assume that given the setup of US open courses there could be a couple of things.

1 - Errant of the tee - leads to lots of chipping out of the rough
2 - Not putting approach shots in the correct location on the green - difficult putts
3 - Doing the above two OK, but still struggling with putting.
It would be interesting to see some stats to find out if there was one single cause.

Adam is reputed to struggle with the putter if anything, so I’d assume 3.

Topic: Golf Talk / Suggestion - Sticky for weekly tournament

Howdy Admin

Just a suggestion

Many other sites I frequent have a sticky in the main section that focuses on the item of the week. I.e.Footy forums generally have a sticky about upcoming game that gets posted as soon as the last game is complete, all posts to do with the topic at hand are in that thread.

I.e. This week – we could have a Sticky

US Open – All related posts here please.

Currently there are 4 or 5 threads on it (albeit with slight variations). I thing it would be a valuable addition to the site to set this up on a weekly basis.

Very similar to the informal – how did you play over the weekend thread. Except it would be refreshed each week with the tournament name as the title.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Proline Clubs

There are a zillion people on here more suited to answer this than me.

But for $900 this sounds really bad. A bad deal in general and to have 4 (now 5) failed clubs makes me wonder if there aren’t some really poor manufacturing process in place. The concern with this is the problems you have run into as well as consistency of build across the set. This could impact different clubs differently – I.e your 8 iron may perform completely differently to your 7 iron etc…

Not trying to be to negative here, others will have a better view on this I’m sure.

Topic: ISG Feedback / Old forum pros & cons

Tithers – I assume your post is directed toward the site Admin / Operators / Oweners, as opposed to the rabble. However I’ll post similar to Fishy, with my thoughts on Pros and Cons as a user.

Pros – - Usage of the forums has definately helped by understanding of the game of golf in EVERY facet. Equipment, The Swing (specific thanks to Guru, Virge, PH, Toolish and JeffMann + others), The Mental side of the game. But most importantly it has helped with my enjoyment of the game, as a result of the things just mentioned. I’m not a better golfer, but I’m on the road to becoming a better golfer. - Met some great people in person, had a lot of laughs, and only ignored one poster. - Purchased some good gear at good prices through the site - The Collingwood thread

Cons - - I have to get 12 performance appraisals done, and I’m posting on here instead of doing them

Topic: Golf Talk / Johnny "huh bob?" Miller

Agreed on Miller – he is a pain in the neck, but does know what he is talking about – It is an art to sift out the chaff however.

With regard to the coverage – I’d like to give Channel 10 a huge thumbs up on picture quality. The HD signal on my snazzy Sony HD TV is just fantastic – definitely the most crisp FTA picture I’ve seen on it so far. They momentarily lost HD signal this morning, and the difference between the SD and HD was enormous.

Now I know it is ESPN coverage so CH10 aren’t really “doing” anything, but at least they are relaying the HD signal, and not chopping it down the some letterboxed crap.

Even happy to put up with Mark Allens hair do and eyebrows in HD.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Anyone ever hear of these clubs?

Just FYI – You can clean shiny grips with soap water / window cleaner / sand paper – in order of severity of clean

Soapy Water works pretty well Window Cleaner works like a champ – really gets rid of the dirt, sweat, dust, sunscreen, tears and blood Sandpaper – use a fine grit (320 is good) and go easy at first. Will take a thin layer of rubber of and make them like new.
