Topic: Rules of Golf / Ball moves ball in bunker This happened last weekend. Two players are both in the same bunker. One has his ball embedded in the steep face of the bunker just under the lip – an impossible shot to the green. The other ball is in the middle of the bunker with a clear shot to the green. Player A hits this ball but it does not clear the bunker, but instead hits the previously embedded ball which now rolls back to the middle of the bunker. This ball cannot be placed back to its original position without forceably creating a lie for it. Can this ball now be played as it lies? |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Lifting ball to check lie? I chipped my ball across the green and it came to rest in a ball size depression in the fringe, so that only approx half the ball was visible. It was either sitting in someone elses plug mark, or it was on a small sprinkler head. I had no way of telling it was a sprinkler head unless I lifted the ball. I played it as it lied, and ended up duffing it – I could only hit the top half of the ball and it just bobbled about 3ft. It was in fact sitting on a sprinkler head and as such I was entitled to relief. My question – if I suspect I’m entitled to relief, may I lift the ball to confirm (and replace it without penalty if I’m not entitled to relief)? Or is it when in doubt you just play it as it lies and suffer the consequences? |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / lead with the hips? I’ve really been struggling with my swing for the last 2 or so years. I’ve gone from a handicap of 8 to 11 and still going out. I’ve been pushing a lot of balls, and then hooking badly. I’ve felt that the face of my clubs has been staying open (push), so I put more effort into the hands resulting in the hook. Today I tried starting my downswing with my hips first and all of a sudden things started to happen again. No pushes, no hooks, just a nice draw and long – I think I’ve been concentrating on the down and out swing, but leading with the arms/shoulders. Hopefully I’ve got the mojo back!! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / looking at going to forged irons or combo irons Hey Blublo – I’m glad you didn’t go any higher, but I wish you didn’t bid at all :) I’m happy with the price – if I hadn’t won them I would have seriously looked at 3 balls. let us all hope they do the trick! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / looking at going to forged irons or combo irons Great stuff – good to hear. I’ve got my fingers crossed that mine will be waiting for me today, in time for twilight tonight – if not, I’m really hoping they’ll be ready to go for their first outing on saturday – I can’t wait! |

Topic: The Lounge / LCD HDTV I wish I had seen this topic previously. Our old TV @#$% itself so we went and bought a new one (and the old one started working again immediately – work that one out). Anyway, I had no view about LCD / Plasma so googled up some reviews / comparisons and formed the view, rightly or wrongly, that LCD was the way to go. This was mainly on the basis that I had read that : |

Topic: Golf Equipment / looking at going to forged irons or combo irons I had a hit with a demo Srixon i 506 5 iron last weekend and was rapt. I first started looking at these clubs when the pro shop had a set ‘discounted’ to something like $750, started to search high and wide, read a heap of reviews and comments here, contemplated importing from the US, and then found a set of new i506 3-pw on Aussie ebay – picked them up tonight for $410 plus postage – total of $435! I’m like a kid at xmas – so darn excited! I just hope they do the trick now and start the handicap going south again. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test I took Russell out to twilight golf last night – I certainly got some comments about using a yellow ball. I managed to birdie the first hole, a soft 140m par 3 – a feat that I’ve rarely managed before on this particular hole, so Russell had me sold straight away. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Loose impediments - bunker
thanks for your quick responses. By ‘unfair’ I meant that a properly prepared course should not have branches lying in bunkers – I guess the best answer might be that you shouldn’t be in there in the first place :) |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Loose impediments - bunker I understand you are not permitted to move any twigs / sticks from a bunker, but I was wondering what the rule is if the ball has gone into a bunker and rolled under a branch that has fallen from a tree. It would appear to be unfair to call it as an unplayable lie, but I suspect that would be the call? any idea? thanks. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Cracked Driver Head
Sorry to go over old ground here. When you say he ‘topped the ball and the crown cracked’, do you actually mean that he hit the top of the ball with the bottom of the club, or the club went under the ball and the top of the club hit the ball (i.e. he skyed it)? I’m still having trouble seeing how you can top a ball and have the crown crack. Either way, its one to be wary of. |
