Topic: WA or Mt Lawley well it will slow it down – the 18th at ML used to be one of the fastest greens in Perth if you tried to putt from the back right. I wasnt aware that hole was up for renovation. Must be almost finished now, or at least only a year to go – will be interesting to compare to the new work at Karrinyup. Mount Lawley originally wanted to hire Mike Clayton to do the work, but couldnt afford it – a very different end result especially the type and shape of bunkers. Clayton goes for the shaggy rough sort that are now at Karinyup, but Michael Coate is a little more restrained |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley Lovely, challenging course but not in the WAGC or Mt Lawley category (my opinion only, of course!). Cheers |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley WA is a bit hilly for me – tough work slogging through that Kik on a hot day, but I concur they keep in as nice a nick. Aesthetically quite nice – miles better than Cottesloe or the Royals. But personally I am a cooch grass snob, just cannot abide Kikuyu – the devil’s grass. So for private tracks that limits you to ML and LK as they are the only ones in town that keep the faith. An infinitely better surface to play off, but does get a bit tatty in winter, while Kik always looks pretty is but crap to play off |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley I guarantee you that WA Golf Club is the best course in WA for consistent great conditioning….and that’s one of the reasons why theirs a waiting list. |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley Definately Mt Lawley. If for no other reason than it is cooch while WA is Kikuyu. It costs more than WA which is probably why WA has a waiting list, but is a far better track in every respect. WA is very nice, Lawley is very very nice. Unless of course you can afford Karrinyup, but that is another level again. |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley Mt Lawley is sensational. I’ve been lucky enough to have played there twice in the last six months and it is easily my favourite Perth course. A good variety of hole types, doglegs left and right, reachable par fives with good bunkering, interesting par threes and greens and fairways are always magnificent. Can’t fault WAGC either. I’ve played quite a lot of rounds there, mainly pennants, and have always found it in great condition. Another pretty interesting layout with tough par threes & fours, and good par fives giving you birdie chances with smart play. If practice facilities come into your considerations, you can’t go past Mt Lawley. One long driving range (300m + from memory), three or four practice bunkers around a green good enough to be most clubs main putting green, and another area about 100 to 140m to practice your longer short game. WAGC has good facilities for the shorter game, but their driving range is not very long and I don’t think you can hit much more than a 4 or 5 iron. Hope this helps! |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley I liked what I saw of the changes to the layout at Mt Lawley in comparison to the old holes but nothing there “stood out” for me. I haven’t played WAGC to assist you – but felt Mt Lawley was a better course than both Royals in WA – if that helps ? |

Topic: WA or Mt Lawley Mt Lawley is great. I was talking to a member the other day who said the new fairways are amazing and have really improved the course. I played it pre-renovation and really liked it. Sorry, I can’t compare it to WA as I haven’t played there. The lack of a waiting list has gotta count for something though. |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game? After the game I played this morning I should take back the bit about hitting my current irons ok cause I was completely crap. I must have forgotten how this game sucks you into thinking you are half alright then shows you that you are really rubbish at it Thats what makes the game great . Let the bad shots define the great ones! |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game? I’m not really equipped to say whether you need new clubs or not, but f* it, if you want new clubs, get them. I’m sure it won’t be a step backwards from your current sticks. I have the R7TP irons and they are beautiful. Went to them from the DCI990 by Titleist and the slightly more forgiving face has made me a better iron player. I know the feeling of a shot with the DCIs that would have been short and right, and with the R7s it’s landing on the front right of the green. They’re a forged players iron, but very forgiving as well. Got the editors choice award in the US Golf Digest Hot List for 2007. Good looking at address and generally play well from all lies. |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game?
Malby I think puts it best. The five steps to game improvement are: Step 1 – Professional Swing Instruction, Step 2 – Properly Fit, Quality Equipment, Step 3 – Practice, Step 4 – Play, and Step 5 – Positive Attitude |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game? Hey Dave, I play Taylormade RAC OS2 irons, which preceed the clubs you are looking at. I have foung that my irons have since developed into the best part of my game, I rely on them and they deliver. You most certinly sould give them a good trial and see for yourself, even if they’re not a fitted club, I think you’ll go new. |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game? dave, the best thing is to go and get fitted, the wilsons you have now could be in perfect condition but you are 18 years older and depending on your age now may have become unsuitable, our age does play a part in selection as swing speeds change so then the need to change shafts, the lie of the head (irons) may now not suit your setup and as timatldg said ” lofts have changed” with a fitter all these pionts and others can be sorted before purchase. cheers peter |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game? Hi Dave, I use the R7 irons and they are great for a golfer of my limited ability (relatively new to the game), they have a larger head and are more forgiving than the standard iron. If you have been playing regularly for over 18 years, I feel that you will be able to hit any iron well. Perhaps try the R7 TP’s.. |

Topic: Will new irons improve my game? Best bet. Grab the 6 iron out of the new set with a shaft that is close to a good fit & hit it side by side with your current 5 iron. Outdoors. Be aware that the new six iron will have the loft (probably the length) of your old five/four iron. After that you can decide whether to shell out & get the new bats. |
