Topic: Golf Talk / Treatment for golfers elbow

I had it ages ago and rest is really good, maybe lay off for a few weeks. A stretch that I did was to simply face the wall, point my fingers to the ground and gently push my palm against the wall just under chest height. But again I must reccomend rest.

Topic: Golf Talk / How do you track your game?

I guess the most important stats for lowering your score are G.I.R and putts.
Here’s how I think of putts and their importance.
If you average 3 shots to reach the green on 18 holes thats 54 shots, which I feel is not to far beyond the average golfer, however if you can have only 30 putts then that gives you a score of 84.
So for me the next stat is G.I.R because if I get that number down and still putt well then I’m really shooting good scores.
The next stat is getting up and down, also a key the pro’s are good at which enables them to shoot low scores.
I’ve got a pretty good memory so I can usually remember my whole round, otherwise I just put little numbers on the card for the stat I’m keeping.

My pitching wedge is starting to show a fair bit of wear. I have Mizuno mp-29’s.What should I do? Can I get it regrooved?Should I try and replace it? Or should I buy a completely different brand/style in a similar way to the rest of my wedges?

Topic: Golf Equipment / 2 irons

I love my 2 iron off the tee in windy conditions. i find that I hit a hybrid too high so when it is windy it can be a little unnerving. So for me I like the ability to hit 200+ nice and low.

Topic: The Lounge / Any Guitarists?

I reckon that if your mainly playing punk and that’s the sound you want, then the best way to go is to stick the punk ethos, go to a second hand place and buy the loudest, cheapest set up you can find. To my knowledge no great punk band could ever afford the top end gear in their early years. So if you want to sound like them, buy like them! As long as it’s loud eh?

I’m not an Essendon supporter but I would have to say James Hird is a perfect role model. I’m not big on people expecting sportsmen to be perfect in every way, but to my mind James definately is.

Topic: Golf Talk / GOLF GPS

now, the roof of the buggy will make some difference. However, more because of the aluminum supports.

I agree, that knowing the exact distance to within cm to the middle of the green isn’t going to mean a whole lot to most. That is why I am concentrating on the things that do mean a lot. Specifically, how far you currently hit the ball.

I am also interested to hear what people have to say about this….

There is no society in human history that ever suffered because its people became too reasonable.
—Sam Harris

I think the GPS’s are going to stuggle if not played in calm conditions. What you need to be able to develop is a system that helps make judgement calls including any wind speed. 150m to the pin on GPS isn’t that much help if a gale is blowing in your face.
I tend to agree with Peter Thompson on this, it wouldn’t bother me if there were no distance markers and we all had to play from sight.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Callaway Golf signs Nick Flanagan

Another thing is the re badging of the tour players old equipment, Pampling using a Taylor Made driver but pops a Cleveland head cover on, Woods re branding his Mizuno’s when he first went to Nike and I remember a story of the difficulty Norman had with Cobra trying to replicate his spalding irons.
I guess they still are loyal to the old stuff but it’s the companies trying to swing our allegencies through the players.

What do you mean?

I’ve got mates who are completely brand loyal , they might have Cleveland clubs, hat, bag etc. It seems it’s the people that pay for the products that are the only ones with any loyalty. But I agree with you, as soon as some money is shown, that can change very quickly.

< There is no such thing as loyalty in this day and age. Sad, but just reality.

Except amongst amateur’s, how many people out there have matching everything?

Topic: Golf Talk / Royal Melbourne to host 2011 Presidents Cup

I would like to see it toned down a bit from the ultra firstclass/corperate theme it had last time, but I agree, it is the best place for it (for people in Melbourne that is)

I used to be a member of Royal Fremantle as a junior and that is a terrific track for the average golfer. Give them a call in advance and you should be fine, they’ve aleays been extremely helpful as far as I know.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Moonah Links Open Course

Don’t forget these bunkers in the middle of the fairway are over head high, over 200m from the green on a par 5, not visible from the tee and right where a good drive would end up.

It’s definately a course you’d play to challenge yourself, not for enjoyment. Anyone with a handicapp over 18 really shouldn’t bother unless you want to smash your confidence and pay $100 bucks for the privelage.

Topic: Sports Talk / Johnsy, so what?

Well it’s good to see some responses, this is obviously an emotive issue. Firstly I would like to say that I’m not a “pill pushing upstart”, I play golf, cricket and work 9-5 like everybody else. I am also not a drug courier.

I’m not sure if the main topic here is a-the fact that people take drugs b-that peolpe can die from drugs or c- a mixture of both.

As I said before people will always take drugs, as we’ve seen with endless anti cigarette and drink driving campaigns. PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS. It is a very litigious society that we live in and people are often to ready to blame some one else for their decisions. Children must be educated on the effect and consequences of taking drugs, both legal and illegal. It is my expierience that one drug begats another. After getting drunk and enjoying the feeling, people will often look for the next high, be it legal or not. Prohibition does not work in stopping the use of drugs, i think you will find that many of the attitudes expressed in this forum will mirror exactly the attitudes towards alcohol in America during their prohibition, and we all know how successful that was. By merely beating our chests and declaring “It’s against the law so you shouldn’t do it” we will achieve nothing in preventing unneccesary deaths. Now I’m not here to say how this can be done, although I do have my thoughts, but I firmly believe that the first step is to accept that people will take drugs, a head in the sand (prohibiton) style approach will not move us forward. If we stick with this method we will continue the debate forever, obviously with the same results. We need to get smarter, not tougher.

Topic: Sports Talk / Johnsy, so what?

Anyone out there who thinks that Andrew Johns took ecstacy as a performance enhancing drug is a twit. The only performace enhancing qualities it has is that it helps you shag like a demon and dance all night. Unlike Ice, Heroin and Cocaine, I have never known of anybody to ever become addicted to Ecstacy. I probably shoudn’t say this, but besides Ice and Heroin(which are obviouslt terribly addictive)I’ve tried just about everything, and without a doubt the worst drug in an all round sense is alcohol. I can’t even be bothered to go into the social, health and economic issues related to this drug. I’m sure that most of the people who are now calling Johnsey a drug cheat/addict have never even tacken a ‘Recreational drug’(don’t you just love it when somone bags the game of golf, yet they’ve never played it) and that’s fine, but some drugs are different from others and do different things. Panadol can be bought off the shelf, Morphine can’t. As for the role model rubbish, who is bringing up your children, Andrew Johns or you? Surely it’s not that hard to tell your children that Shane Warne is an absolute champion on the field but a complete idiot off of it. Parents need to become more involved in their childrens lives and not keep hoping that someone else can give them the guidance to become good people. Now I’m not advocating perfomance enhancing drugs in sport, although it would be intersting to see how fast a human could run 100m, but drugs in society are here, humans love them, always have. Anyone who drinks coffee, alcohol or smokes cigarettes are drug takers. Do you know any drug addicts?

Topic: The Lounge / Todays Golf Joke

A fellow gets up before dawn on Sunday morning to play his weekly game of golf. He quietly gets out of bed so as not to wake up the wife, grabs his clubs and heads off. As he’s driving to the course he notices that some rain clouds are starting to gather. By the time he arrives at the course it’s raining heavily, and with all the lightening around, the mornings rounds have been cancelled. The fellow looks at his watch and seeing that it is still only 730am,figures that his beloved would still be in bed. He makes a hasty trip back home through the rain and as quietly as he can, slips into bed with his wife. She stirs a little as if to recognise his presence. He puts one arm around her and whispers into her ear “It’s absolutely pouring out there” Without moving she replies “I know, and my stupid husband is out playing golf in it”
