Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Hardest course in Australia?

So what is the hardest course by design. Not by weather or any other outside influences. Everyone went on about Magenta shores being a hard course and I rocked up the stillest weekend of the year and pared the course the first time I played it.
I like courses that are difficult everytime you play them, not just cause the wind is blowing in a certain direction.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Recovering from an injury.

G’day all, last weekend I played skirmish with a group of mates for a bucks day/nighter. Long story short I ended up cracking a bone in my rist and badly spraining it. No golf for up to 6 weeks. I just know that when I get back to it I am going to be crap. Any tips on getting your groove back after an injury like this?

Sounds good I’m in.

Profile: longoffthetee
Name: Glenn
Course: Formerly Kooralbyn, but since it shut down been playing all over the place.
State: Qld
Handicap: I think still 12 will have to double check.
Clubs:
Taylormade R7 Superquad 10.5 Stiff
2 Maxfli Hybrids
Maxfli Missile Irons(being replaced in the next couple of weeks)
48, 54 and 60 Degree Wedges by Titliest
Stick with a flat bit on the end for a putter.

Topic: Golf Talk / Who is your favourite Aussie, and also non Aussie golfer?

Favorite Aussie would have to be Scott, cause he went to the school at Kooralbyn. Then Bowditch and Bloomfield for the same reason. Great blokes and would give you the shirt off their back.
International I would have to say Sergio lately he has taken his close defeats like a true champion.

Yeah still closed guy’s no word on any buyer’s, Ray Schofield as far as I know still owned the place, but MFS had controlling interest and they went south big time when the US Stock market slumped 6 months ago. At the moment it is in the hands of the liquidators. I have heard a few rumors about another local course buying the place ( Windaroo ) and have also heard rumors of a few Asian Businessman walking through the place and were thinking of buying it. But at the moment nothing is being done with the place. You can still play the course as far as I know but the is no maintenance being done apart from a mow every now and then. So if you want to have a hit pack your lunch, drinks and push cart and be prepared for a long walk.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Taylor Made

I got a Taylormade R7 Superquad, the single best driver I have ever hit. Mate there is nothing I can’t do with it, draw, power fade, straight up the middle. Everything.
The day I bought it I think I hit about 10 different Drivers on the L/M and as soon as I hit 1 ball with the Superquad there was no need to hit any others.

Topic: Golf Talk / BUNDY CLOCK

I’m sorry, I have to disagree with most of you. If your in that much of a rush to finish your round, how are you truely going to enjoy the game. Constantly thinking about how long it takes to play a shot/hole/round is detremental to your game mind set. I myself am not a slow player our group usually finish our round in about 3 3/4 hours, and I think for some players 4 3/4 hours is reasonable. 5 hours, well aslong as they are letting faster groups through, so be it.
If you give a slow group an ETA, do you think that group is ever going to let a faster groups through. It’s all about etiquette people. I believe they are introducing these Bundy clocks in order to not worry about having a course ranger. After all organising slow players is part of their job.

Topic: Golf Talk / Kooralbyn

I played at Kooralbyn yesterday, I used to be a member there before it shut down. The course is open and free to anyone who wants to play it.
However you have to walk the course and bring your own drinks and food.
Me and a couple of mates played yesterday. We played prefered lie as the fairways are not in the best of shape due to no maintenance apart from mowing. The bunkers were all G.U.R. for us because most were like rock again due to no Maintenance and the greens were unevenly mowed and the pins are marked with an upside down bunker rake.
Funny thing was I played River Lakes a couple of weeks ago apart from the Bunkers I thought Kooralbyn was on par for condition.
I will warne you though it is one hell of a walk.
If you decide to come out and walk the course bring plenty of water and make sure you have a good push cart.

Topic: Golf Talk / longest or best putt

A month or 2 ago I was playing the 2nd round of Matchplay championships, we were on the first hole a 520m par 5. I hit my 3rd shot, 8iron from 140 which took a bad bounce and ran past the flag and finished with a 35 footer for Birdie. My partner then chipped in from 60 out for Birdie. After he finished celebrating he sarcasticly said to me goodluck. I lined it up and putted. Straight in the hole, never even looked like missing. My opponents head dropped and remained that way for the next 7 holes. As I went to a 7 up lead after the 8th. We finished up at the 12th and I went through to the Final.

Topic: Golf Talk / Hackers with Low Handicaps - Lower than Me!

the reverse can be true then

smart looking swing but plays like a dud …..

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it’s the right stick !
Good Golf is Fun plus the Great Outdoors…
In the Bag: Clubs and Balls. My Handicap is Bad Golf.

Absolutely alot of people have told me that I have a nice swing even when I was struggling to hit under 100. Now I play off 12 and the swing has changed slightly but not alot.

Topic: Golf Talk / Hackers with Low Handicaps - Lower than Me!

I met a guy one day at the driving range, I saw his swing and very nearly burst out laughing, untill I saw the ball fly. This guy had the ugliest swing I have ever seen, and was flushing it perfect every time. I later saw his swing on film, and at impact everything was perfect, it was just how he got their that was very weird. He has this looping club swaying hop thing going perfectly and he plays off 3. I later got putting and chipping lessons cause he was deadly accurate with the short sticks.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Whats yr opinion? - is the 3 wood an endangered species?

In my opinion woods no longer suit my game, I have a 2 and 3 Hybrid that has replaced my 3 & 5 wood.
I hit the hybrids much more accurately, Higher and they land softer.
I lose a little in distance but I believe the accuracy that I gain more than out weighs the loss in distance.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Anyone Played Kooralbyn Lately?

Well I recieved word last night from a very reliable source that Windaroo did look into buying the course but were knocked back due to their finance saying it’s too much of a stretch at the moment.
So were all still in limbo, there was talk of another buyer from Victoria showing interest but nothing confirmed. What we need is for someone like the Packers or Greg Norman to buy the place and sink the money into it that it needs and I can guarantee you will get a return on your investment.
I know for a fact that Kerry Packer put a bid on the place about 10 years ago for 80M and it was rejected.
A 300 home housing development has all but been approved through council for around the course so if someone picks up that fumbled ball and runs with it there is mega bucks to be had.
Anyway time will tell.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Anyone Played Kooralbyn Lately?

Well aparently I am going to continue to play at Kooralbyn. I heard a rumor from 3 different people (2 of those people are quite reliable) that the resort and golf course has been bought by the same people that own Windaroo Golf Course. So hopefully the place is back up and running soon.

Topic: Golf Talk / The worst weather you've played in

The worst weather I played in was at my home course, Kooralbyn. I was shooting an absolute blinder on the Saturday comp Monthly Medal. I was 7 over at the 17th tee with a 15 Handicap. The weather had been threatening all morning.
Tee’d off on 17 hit it perfect 10 foot from the pin as the ball landed on the green it was like a switch. Down she came, absolutely belting down with rain. We took shelter under some palm trees at the the back of the green for a while but knew it wasn’t going to let up, and I wasn’t prepared to give up on a possible monthly medal win, so I two putted out for par.
My marker had stayed behind to mark my card for me, everyone else had headed for the 19th. There was a constant stream of people driving past in their buggies abandoning there game and watching me standing out in it. I anded up with a triple bogie on the 18th which got me a 67, 5 under par, the monthly medal win and 2 weeks of the flu.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Anyone Played Kooralbyn Lately?

I hope the course gets picked up by someone else, it’s a great track and the most challenging course I have played on. I would hate to see it get ripped up for villas.
Dougie did your dad get to try out the new 18th before it shut down. Now that was a tough hole, the fifth is a very desceptive hole and I must admit I have probobly played it 500 times and have only Birdied it once. lol
