Glenmorangie ;) Take it from a pom who lived in Scotland for 30 years.

A pommie Man Utd supporter. Some say “Is there anything worse?” I say “I’m only 18 golf strokes from perfection.”

You would think I know given that I buy it every few months but attention to detail has never been my strong point.

Snake gully messed with my head big time,
I was in a play it safe kinda mood given that it was a new course etc. Hit the driver to the left in an effort to avoid the water, overshot it and landed in someones back yard (should have tried to hit over the bloody water).
That is the type of hole every course needs, just keeps sucking you in and gives you something to look forward to even on the bad days.

We have about 4 houses being built around us at the moment. Over here (Solomon Islands) housing is extremely expensive so the builders live on site.

The first problem is that they decide at 4-5-6 in the morning on the weekends to start hitting S@#it with their hammers.

The second problem is that they all congregate at one house on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights drink copious amounts of illegal piss and party on normally until around 6am (which is when the hammers get a work out).

We called one of the owners and he told us that they usually only celebrate when a job is completed (mate you hammered that nail in well, “lets get pissed”).

Topic: Golf Talk / What if you could only have 12 clubs?

I currently use 12

Driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, SW, Putter.

So it wouldn’t make any difference to me however my course isn’t friendly to high wedge shots hence no reason for extra wedges (the only way to attach hard packed coral based greens is chip and run).

Dr_Gribbles

Very impressed indeed.

We had a great day! All players were extremely impressed with the layout and condition of the course. The old man said that he loved the course pretty much every time we teed off.

As you mentioned the pin placements were a challenge due to the club champs the day prior but that just made for some good golf.

I managed a 97 off the stick which I was pretty happy with considering a few balls drowned and a poop load of bad putts (was trying out a putter for the first time).

I will definitely be back but will try for mid week so we can take our time. The course wasn’t overbooked but we had a slow player in our group and playing a unfamiliar course does slow things up aswell.

Topic: Golf Talk / Recovering From A Disastrous Start

Very good article,
I played a few weeks ago with a lady who gave up after 9 holes. She was not hitting it the way she wanted and progressively got worse throughout the front 9. Now I don’t care if someone gives up half way when they are not enjoying their golf as it is a game where most of us do it for fun and relaxation.

I was also having a shocker on the front 9 and scored 14 points. The two remaining players were good company and given that I wasn’t going to worry the scorers I just set out on the back 9 for a bit of fun. As a result I scored 21 points for a total of 35 and protected my handicap for another week.

Thanks for the update,
Good to hear that the pins will be in tough places. Playing with the old man and he is a sledger from way back so the more difficult the more crap flying around.

Thanks Dr Gribbles,
Really looking forward to it.
Not too worried about the bunkers because the bunkers at my club are like rock (you would be hard pressed driving a shovel in them let alone a sw).
If we have no-one up our butt I will give the 14th bunker a go :).
Will leave a review upon my return.

Cheers
Waz.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Windaroo Lakes

Hi All,
I have read previous posts and the reviews about windaroo lakes but am keen on its current standing.
I am heading there on Fathers day with the inlaws for a social hit.

Do they take on too many bookings? Reason being that 2 of us play regular golf, the third is a pretty good and the fourth has a bit of trouble finding the fairways. I just don’t want to be letting groups play through all day.

What is the current course condition considering the drought.

Thanks in advance.

Topic: Golf Talk / What club to join ?

Not sure how much it costs but Gailes is worth a look, next door Wolsten park is also worth a test, it is more a tier 3 than 2 but for the money I think it is a good track.
Not sure where you live but Ipswich has a couple of value for money courses (Karana Downs and Sandi Gallop).

2 iron sets, 4 drivers, 3 putters, 2 bags, 2 buggies.
If the wife hadn’t put the brakes on I would also have 3 wedges and a couple more hybrids but that handbrake is bloody hard to move.

Wolston park is a good choice and not far from your place. Another cheapie is Sandy Gallop which is on Lobb street in Ipswich. It is under new management and they are apparently doing some good things.
I played there a few months ago and found it really good.
Only problem with this option is that you will need a bag full of balls at the ready as some of the fairways slope directly into gullies.

Topic: Golf Talk / Handicap goals

22 handicap and you hit it 280m Dan the Fisherman? You must be a freak but which direction do you hit that 280m drive in? Any 22 handicap player who says they hit it 280m is having a lend of themselves. Did you mean to type 28m short of 200m. Fascinating.

Have clubs and will travel?
...If it doglegs at 200m, I suppose Dan will go fishing with a 9 iron to the corner and then hit a stinger putter (teed up) from 80m out onto the green over the water and rip it back to a few feet and make the putt? That would be a 3 a nett 1 if Dan had 2 shots on the hole?. That would be nice to have all the time off 22.

Hit them long Dan.

I think you are having a lend of yourself.
I am off 20 and am one of the longest and straightest hitters in my club off the tee. The short game and course management is what lets me down. You can’t assume just because someone has a high handicap (not that 23 is that high) that they can’t hit a ball to save themselves.

But if you were fishing like FishermanDan was then success.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Should I ditch the new driver??

KYC,
I am itching to try it but have to wait until my holidays in a couple of weeks.

Keyfie,
Normally I hit straight or a slight draw however if I try to smack the piss out of it I will get a slice but that is uncommon these days.

I suppose I was a little worried about having to adjust my swing each time I travel home and back again.

Not bad,
Aim for the year was to be in the teens and now sitting on 20. Only playing every 2 to 3 weeks but pretty confident about dropping a couple more strokes.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Should I ditch the new driver??

A bit of a long one so bare with me.

I live overseas and play over here however I regularly return home and play when I am back. I have a second set of clubs at home which is fine however I have just purchased a new driver (TM Burner) from ebay.

When I purchased the driver there was no mention of the fact that it was an offset club (designed to stop fade I assume).

I use 9 degree G5 (no offset) over here and hit it down the middle 90% of the time.

So my question is: will the offset driver stuff my game up??

I got mine direct from Lind so all is good,
Certainly need to be careful on ebay though as I seem to remember a thread on this site about the Odyssey rip offs and how many had hit the site.

I don’t feel ripped off now,
That works out to be around AUD$140 once shipped.

HennoHimself,

I have been checking out Ebay constantly, checked all the recommended online stores and visited a few. Never have I found a new Odyssey 2 ball for that price. Come to think of it I haven’t found a near new one for that price. Where do you do your shopping? I am a shocker, look forever, purchase then find a better deal shortly afterwards.

If you like the 2 ball why not try the Lind version, at $79 you don’t have much too lose.
I just purchased one but won’t get to try it out until 6th September so my review may be a bit late if you are in the market now.

Bus freight would be a good option if you live somewhere near a bus depot. I do but they live too far away which brings the couriers back into the fold.
On the net it appeared that you could send a full set from Melbourne to Brizzy for $79 which isn’t too bad considering the weight.

Topic: Golf Talk / Excess baggage charges for golf gear

I hate baggage restrictions,
We have a toddler and travel international and interstate regularly, it peeves me that we have to pay 1/2 adult fair and only get to put a pram through free and don’t get any other allowance.

Also sucks that taking your clubs costs so much as hire clubs in general are crap.

Malvernstar,
I don’t think anyone would sponsor me to use the pink grip given my ability or lack thereof but selling them at a golf fundraiser day would be an awesome idea.
