Topic: The Lounge / Scotland - New Zealand Rugby Match 12shoc, I started this whole thing because I thought it is fun to see the Haka before a competition starts. I’d feel cheated if the players stopped performing the song and dance and I’m sure it has nothing to do with unsportsmen-like behaviour, just tradition. Johanna |

Topic: The Lounge / GWB's visit to London Air Force One arrives at Heathrow and President Bush strides to a warm and dignified reception from the Queen. They are driven in a 1934 Bentley to the edge of central London where they change to a magnificent 17th century carriage hitched to six white horses. They continue on towards Buckingham Palace, waving to the thousands of cheering Britons; all is going well. Suddenly, the right rear horse lets fly with the most horrendous earth-shattering fart ever heard in the British Empire. The fart shakes the coach. The smell is atrocious! Both passengers in the carriage must use perfume-dipped handkerchiefs over their nose, but the two dignitaries of state do their best to ignore the incident. The Queen turns to President Bush saying, ‘Mr. President, please accept my regrets. I am sure you understand there are some things that even a Queen cannot control.’ Bush, with his usual diplomatic aplomb, replied, ‘Your Majesty, do not give the matter another thought. Until you mentioned it, I thought it was one of the horses.’ |

Topic: The Lounge / Latest on Sevy MADRID, Spain—Seve Ballesteros is scheduled to undergo another operation on a brain tumor, La Paz Hospital said in a statement Thursday. The operation Friday will attempt to relieve pressure on his brain caused by an edema and bleeding that have recently developed. The remaining parts of the tumor, located in a very deep part of the brain, will be removed in the operation, the statement said. A study of cells already removed has revealed the tumor is classified as an oligoastrocitoma, a type that affects “cells that cover and protect the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord,” the statement said. The hospital said the operation is “of great complexity.” Ballesteros was admitted to the hospital Oct. 6, and 10 days later a sizable part of the tumor was taken out. Part of his skull was removed—a procedure known as decompressive craniotomy—to allow room for a swelling brain to expand. Doctors said it was not uncommon after such complex operations. |

Topic: The Lounge / 40 Gypsies who went to Heaven The Pearly Gates 40 Gypsies arrive at the Pearly Gates in their Transit vans and caravans. St Peter goes into the gatehouse and phones up God, saying. ‘I’ve got 40 travelers here. Can I let them in?’ God says ‘We are over quota on Pikeys . Go out and tell them to choose between them which are the 12 most worthy, and I will let just the dozen in.’ Less than a minute later St Peter is on the phone to God again. ‘They’ve gone’, he tells God. ‘What?’ says God, ‘All 40 of them?’ ‘No, the f*ing gates’. |

Topic: The Lounge / Seve, latest news Golf legend Seve Ballesteros is in a stable condition after undergoing an operation on a brain tumour. The Madrid hospital where he underwent the procedure said he was conscious and stable and recovering in intensive care, and there were no complications. A biopsy on the tumour was scheduled for Tuesday but doctors decided to operate to remove as much of the tumour as possible before treatment. It was first said the op took 12 hours, but a later one said it was seven. “It was a long operation – some statements say 12 hours but we’ve been told by the family seven hours – and we believe it has been successful,” European Tour chief executive George O’Grady told BBC Radio 5 Live. “It has got to be checked through later but his brother has phoned to tell us it was very successful. 606: MESSAGES RedFAK The 51-year-old five-time major winner collapsed at Madrid Airport last week. He underwent a number of tests over the weekend which uncovered the tumour and after informing his family, Ballesteros confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday. A statement from La Paz Hospital on Wednesday said: “The patient will spend a post-operative period in the intensive care unit. “He is currently conscious and in a stable condition, although he cannot receive visits in the coming days until he recovers from the surgery.” The removed tumour will be analyzed and it will take several days before the results are known, and what course of treatment Ballesteros may need. Ballesteros won 87 titles during his career, including the Open in 1979, 1984 and 1988 and the Masters in 1980 and 1983 and captained Europe to Ryder Cup victory at Valderrama in 1997. He retired last year following arthritic back and knee problems late in his career and doctors discovered an irregular heartbeat when he was admitted to hospital in 2007. |
