Topic: Spotting Fakes!

No reason not to name this seller.

This happened many years ago and it wasn’t for golf equipment so I didn’t bother.

If you had paid via paypal
then you could have claim back the FULL costs
from paypal under fraudulent seller….. ??

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it’s the right stick !
Good Golf is Fun plus the Great Outdoors…
In the Bag: Clubs and Balls. My Handicap is Bad Golf.

I did pay by PayPal and read their protection policies with a magnifying glass and from memory it was something like I had to pay for return shipping or something. Whatever it was, PayPal was effectively useless and it was at that time I’d discovered a few web sites with hundreds of Pay-pal disgruntled victims.

goes to show there is always a catch for something
no free lunches for sure…..

bastar* Paypal…..

Then why bother posting this in a Golf Equipment forum then?

Pointless..

think his intention is good
n to warn us of powersellers out there who still does not guarantee a 100% smooth deal

A heads up

Just a quick question on fake clubs.
2 guys are selling mizuno mp-600 drivers
1 has serial number 1629506 & the other has serial number v20697.
Which 1 do you think is the fake?
Or are they both fake?

Either could be…..I mean it is not that hard to get a serial number from a real club and use it or a modified version of it.

As for the number s being different, this means nothing…I have vokey wedges that I know are real and 2 have numbers only the other one starts with some letters.

Generally the feedback gives a good indication…..generally :)

On the bright side, if that is you in your avatar if theu did the wrong thing by you, you could crush them with your 100 inch thighs.

Not that simple….

I bought something advertised as ‘100% genuine – don’t get caught out by fakes elsewhere’. Powerseller in the US, 60,000 transactions, 99.8% feedback. I checked previous comments from past winners of the same item—all along the lines of “fast postage, smooth transaction, A++” ….

I emailed for confirmation that authenticity holograph was in place. “Yes, we only sell genuine, we’d be out of business in a flash if we didn’t”.

My winning bid was 90% of the retail price.

Received item – fake. Contacted manufacturer for confirmation it was fake, they agreed.

Contacted ebay guy, he said “Yeah, been flat-out lately and didn’t check them. Send it back and I’ll refund the purchase price”.

I said “I purchased a genuine one, you send me a genuine one – I’ve wasted a week on this auction, filtered through tons of obvious fakes, paid $50 postage for a $130 item already and do not wish to pay another $50 to send it back to you”.

He would not budge. So I cut my losses, sent it back, got my $130 then emailed 18 past winners of the item that they probably received fakes. All but 3 emailed back. One said he’d sent his back already but got negative feedback for it, most of the rest indicated they were disappointed with the product but trusted it was genuine.

I think many of them contacted the seller for refunds as I got a nasty letter from the seller saying I had no right to contact his customers.

I did act in anger and retrospectively thinking, shouldn’t have made the other buyers aware for their sakes.

And would you believe I get an email from ebay a week later saying the seller has claimed I didn’t pay and wishes to claim his selling fees back from ebay. Do I agree….

No reason not to name this seller.

This is really simple. Buy from sellers with 100% feedback, who allow you to pickup the goods, and who gaurantee that the clubs are genuine. If in doubt, ask them the question “is this club gauranteed authentic?” If they do not answer the question, then do not buy from them. Its not friggin rocket science. The whole ebay fake story is blown way out of proportion.

Then again, if you buy from sellers with no feedback, who have been on ebay for 10 minutes, who are based in China and don’t answer your ebay questions then you deserve to have your back passage reamed…

A bloke I play with on Saturdays bought a set of r7 irons off a used car salesman…..he talked about them the week before and bought them in the next week….they were soo rough in the metal finish and the stickers on the back were lifting on the edges…he paid $500 for them…..I just shook my head and didn’t say a word, but he could tell by the look on my face. Funny thing is he gave them to his sister who runs a stall at the local Sunday markets…a bloke looked at them 1st week and brought a mate the next week and paid $550 for them….he has since told the mates’ sister that he has taken 2 shots off his handicap!!!! He loves them!!! Go figure!!!

I bought FT-3 on ebay from a club pro at croydon GC. It was cheap and had a Draw adjustment, it made no difference to my slice. I went to Callaway for a fitout and they told me it was a fake. Went and bought a real one and struth what a difference, straighter, explosive sound and 20 -30 meters extra distance. I got done this time but have had plenty of wins on ebay with other stuff.

I have bought a set of Callaway X18’s from the www.callawaypreowned.com site. I bought “Like New” condition – actually they were unused. I was able ot buy the exact spec I wanted ( small charge ot be factory lengthened) the correct lie angle, the correct shaft etc . They are guaranteed by Callaway – money back guarantee. They arrived by Fedex in 3 days ex USA. Total cost $850 ( al up – freight and insurance incl for 8 clubs ( 3-PW).

With the $A so high, it makes it well worth while.

I would not buy any golf club on ebay – just as I would not buy any golf club at a market in China. The whole reason to buy new clubs is to play better golf – not to walk around with fakes in your bag.

The cachet statement of saying that the clubs are coming from the USA is a great “Con line” and a lead in to scamming the targeted buyer. The majority of clubs from first line club makers in the USA are not heavily discounted from the suggested retail price (They are able to restrict sales only to those stores that abide by the suggested /agreed retail pricing structure.
Mfrs such as Callaway even have their own sites dealing in used/traded in clubs, would suggest that interested buyers check out sites such as TGW.com, Edwin Watts, Golf Galaxy, GolfSmith etc.
Usually in the months of January/February/Sept/Oct Mfrg closeouts from prior years when a new model is being promoted are available at a good discount (If the clubs fit your playing profile then they become an excellent buy. (But know your Vendor/Seller)
Clones are a passable/similar to the original and are sold as such in the USA/but are not counterfeit copies made to decieve. The given name only bears a vague similarity. (Passes the USA copyright test)
Counterfeits in years past have been a major problem, but the US custom service has a heavy presence in investigating and prosecution said counterfeiters.
But and it is a large “but” !, the counterfeit clubs keep coming,it also goes for watches, bags, pharmaceuticals etc. etc.etc.
Your mantra, should be,”Know your vendor and watch your set-up).
Hit em hard, buy well and good golf.
Billy Mac/Illinois.

I purchased my pro-combo’s off ebay for $500, now if they are fakes they still seem to go pretty well, so the $1000 saved was well worth it.

Forget to say:
that imports (incl freight and all) of items > AUD 1000 incurs extra charges of duties and GST etc, otherwise none (except alcohol and tobacco)...see thread – Buying form USA.

Enjoy.

Thanks for that guys.
I bought a set of (used) Taylor Made CGB irons (graphite shaft) from Global golf. Mint condition which says they were not actually used/hit, but possibly unsold stock or display items.

It was a better deal than even the possible fakes I linked previously. Approx $610. In case anyone is interested I’ll post back when I’ve received them and tell you the condition of the clubs.

Sorry
I haven’t needed them yet, but
I checked out their site and their listing on eBay looks pretty OK (almost set up like the Callaway preowned site), looks like a big enough co. to buy from ?

I wrote to them a couple of times and they responded within 48 hours if I recall rightly
