Well, once again, Adam “The Myth” Scott gets off to a poor start in a major. Does anyone still think he’s the best player not to win a major?

Topic: Golf Talk / Byron Nelson tournament

I don’t want to take anything away from Scott. This win will probably elevate him to 3rd in the world rankings and that’s a great record.

My concern is purely that his final round average is pretty weak. As support for that argument, I refer to his 2008 PGA Tour stats which show:

Scoring Average : Stat : Rank
Overall : 70.06 : 3rd
Scoring Avg. Before Cut : 69.70 : 3rd
Round 3 Scoring Avg. : 69.00 : 9th
Final Round Scoring Average : 72.00 : 103rd

To be in the top 10 for scoring average for three rounds, then drop to 103rd for the final round shows an inability to finish.

Compare that to Tiger Woods, who’s in the top 10 for all four rounds.

These stats prove that Adam Scott is a myth. The media talk him up leading into every major yet he never produces the goods in the ones that matter. Don’t get me wrong, he’s trying his best out there; but when he’s up against the best in the world, he goes missing.

great track???? nice track and be good if they manicured it more than once every 2 weeks..not a sign of greenstaff mid week early morning…I let the pro know how poor I tho it was but owner sup only interested in the developments…….
hot bar staff must be said tho and nice clubhouse…..wudnt pay more than 40 dollars next time

I agree with this assessment. The nearby Macquarie Links makes CL look like a goat track in terms of conditioning.

Topic: Golf Talk / us masters

The US Masters is the most pretentious event going around. Don’t get me wrong I love golf, the tournament and all of the majors but I tune in to watch fantastic golf not sickly sentimental, self efficating American dribble. It also bores me to watch footage of azaleas and georgia pines while listening to classical musicwith some yank essentially saying, “how’s the serenity”. So I’ll start to call it the US Masters now that I know it pisses off pretentious yanks!

Couldn’t have put it better myself!

Is it just me or does anyone else find Jim Nantz nauseating? He’s now calling Gary Player “Mr Player”. Jesus these yanks go on like pork chops – it’s sickly sentimental.

chevychase,

Ball flight means sweet F all? Please go on further.

Trivis,
when you write your score down, do you say “I made a great birdie at the last; played a high fade to the middle of the green then drained a 20 footer for birdie”. No you don’t. For the majority of amateur golfers, lower ball flight with blades is a load of BS. If you want a lower ball flight, choke down on a less lofted club and play the ball further back in your stance. Too many amateurs get caught up in this notion of ball flight when they don’t have the game to match their clubs. For 99% of the people on this forum, they should be concerned about the number they write on their scorecard, not whether they hid a “low draw” etc…

Thanks guys. Yeah the macs are a great club. I have had my ones for about 8 months or so and they are great. I wont get rid of them for a while, but when i do il proly just give them to my brother or something as its not worth selling them for $200.

thanks for the help

Aspiring club ho!

Ditch these and get the Mizuno MP-57’s the difference between your MacGregor’s and the MP-57’s would be like comparing a Daewoo with a Ferrari.

Is Ogilvy a chance at the masters?

Brad,
There’s no doubt Geoff’s got the game – his US Open victory was the culmination of some pretty good form (World Matchplay); so he’s no stranger to pressure golf at the highest level. I think with Augusta it’s more of a mental test than any venue or tournament in golf.

Anybody know the deal with Twin Creeks or Macquarie links? how expensive are they to join??
what’s the most expensive course in Sydney

From the back T
Fudge.

Fudgegolf,
Are you sitting down? You’re up for around $40k joining fee at either and then $2.5k a year subs. Other option is to buy a house in either estate; you’ll get the joining fee waived.

Chris,
I’m very close to you in handicap (9). I rarely play consistently to 9; however I throw the odd 2 or 3 over round in there somewhere. I was in a similar position to you.
I ended up going with MP-60’s after getting rid of a set of MP-32’s and I haven’t looked back. My cousin has just bought a set of MP-57’s after trying the 67’s. He’s off 13. You really need to be swinging the club consistently well to get the most out of the MP-67’s. I say to you don’t let your ambitions run away with your capabilities at this stage.
When you’re off single figures and can play to this regularly, then maybe the 67’s will be appropriate. In the meantime get the 57’s they look almost as good anyway! Ball flight means sweet F.A. – what matters is what you write down on your scorecard.

The headline should read “Ogilvy challenges Tiger”. No doubt Adam “The Myth” Scott will lose touch with Tiger as he usually does. And to those of you who think he’s got a chance at The Masters, keep dreaming.

Topic: Golf Talk / Adam Scott - the round of his life

it was an awesome display of putting which is the weakest part of his game, one of those putting rounds where the hole was as big as a bucket.now if he could only putt like that in a major this could be a big year for him.

My sentiments exactly. It’s time for Scott to step up. He’s now world number 5, let’s see some trophies (majors); preferably US majors. Let’s start by getting Australia its first green jacket. Now, do you think you’ve got the game Adam?

Topic: The Lounge / What gets up your goat?

Articles that suggest there are performance enhancing drugs in golf. I’d like some suggestions from the authors of these articles as to who they think the perpetrators are? The way I see it, there are 2 scenarios: 1) The use of “Beta Blockers” and 2) The use of Anabolic Steroids. Surely, among the tour fraternity, being such a close knit bunch of golfers and caddies, you’d expect maybe the odd suspicion to filter through? I am a close friend of a caddie to one of our current aussie players on the U.S. PGA tour and I asked him if he’d ever heard any whispers about this (and this guy loves a kick-on) and he said he’s never heard of anything. Maybe beta blockers; but anabolic steroids? I doubt it. If anyone has the physique to suggest he’s on the juice, it’s Tiger. Can’t think of anyone else. Thoughts anyone?

McMurphy,
you have taken the words out of a lot of people's mouths. A perfect summation of the situation. I'd love to know what CBS pays for the broadcast rights. John J Jones is spot on; CBS punted McCord from the telecast for comparing the speed of the greens to a woman who had just had a bikini wax.

I bought a 50" HD Plasma with the baby bonus - best investment ever. Even my wife commented on how good the picture was this morning. I enjoy both Faldo & IBF's comments. Johnny Miller is a tool. He'd get banned like McCord for nothing more than being an absolute tosser.

Topic: Golf Talk / Badds at the FBR

I'd rather watch Badds play; his putting is at another level. Scott needs to spend a few weekends with Badds on the green, then he might be able to contend in a major. There's the added bonus of catching a glimpse of the cans when Badds plays as well.

Topic: Golf Talk / Handicap = Playing Ability

QUOTE: judgesmails @ Sep 21 2006, 11:05 AM

I play off 11, lowest I've been is 10.2 and highest in the last year or so is 11.4.
I rarely if ever play to my handicap and have shot scores ranging between 78 and 90 most days and have been as high as 100 plus.

If I play on a Thursday it's a lot easier to play to my handicap as the course is set up a lot easier but I normally only play Saturday arvo when the course is at it's hardest as the pins and tees are in the most difficult positions and the wind usually picks up around 2.30/3PM.

If I play at easier courses than my home track, I usually never even get close to my handicap as I don't know where to, or more importantly, where not to hit the ball.

If I have 36 points I've had a good day.

I think handicaps are a sign of what you are capable of shooting and anything thing more that 3 shots better is a great day while 3 shots worse is just average.

Judge,
you've summed up my own situation perfectly. I got down to 8 as member playing at a course significantly easier than my current home track. I've played to 8 or better at my home course twice in 3 years. I probably play in comps at other courses about a dozen times a year and for some weird reason usually play better than at my home track blink.gif Played in the comp at home last Saturday and had 28 points with 4 wipes. Do you remember that great horse Chief De Beers? He could only ever win at his home track; well I'm the opposite. laugh.gif

Topic: Golf Talk / Hole In One Problem - When not to get one!

I'll tell you when not to have a hole in one - when you've got no money and you have to shout the bar with about 60 people rubbing their hands together for a free beer. This happended to me at an invitation day at Wentworth Fallls about 8 years ago on the 5th hole. Despite the 4 stableford points, the rest of the round sucked; I think I had about 30 points. I still have the ball though - mounted on a trophy - a Maxfli HT100. Closest I've come since is about 30cm. By the way, if it's not in a comp, no-one gives a rat's.

Do they still have that Composite Course day for $400.

Yeah, I know we are not getting cheaper, but it's a great way to play the original composite course when not a member.

I believe the composite tournament is on November 6th this year. I've played this 3 times in the last 4 years and it is worth every cent. The weather has been perfect each time. Apart from playing the composite course, you get lunch, a gift pack and a terrific 4 course dinner for $400. Prizes are sensational as well. A group of us go down each year and play Metro (reciprocal rights with The Aussie) and Moonah Links (reciprocal Club Corp course). With the Cup on Tuesday, 5 days in Melbourne doesn't get much better than this. wink.gif

Tiger never used MP33's.

Veefore,
Do you know this for a fact? A good pro mate of mine who worked with Butch Harmon for a while when he was in the states, has told me that Tiger definitely was using, at one stage, a set of customised MP33's with the Nike logo stamped on them. Believe me when I tell you this guy is "well connected". wink.gif
