Topic: Golf Talk / Best Golfing Quotes

I read that Greg Norman onced asked his caddy ( the same one who caddied for him at his last open) why dont you ever give me exact distances, you always round them off to the nearest 5 (315, 225 etc, etc). his response was…. because your not that bloody good.

My wife says I’m obsessive compulsive. I say cant be that bad, there’s
about 800 of us where I go every Saturday…

i think his caddy actually said that too payne stewart, not greg norman. sorry.

Topic: Golf Talk / Royal QLD Membership

I’m in the market for a new club membership and was considering joining Royal Queensland.

Curious to know if any ISG’ers have played the Mike Clayton redesigned course and what thay think of it as there doesn’t seem to be much in the course reviews section.

Any comments and recommendations on the course, and the club itself?
Cheers

played their a few times now, i think it’s a great what they have done with it, so many different ways to play each hole depending on where the pin is and which way the wind is blowing.
don’t listen to anyone until you have played it, and certainly don’t listen to a certain anal ISG member, you need a brain to think your way round, that’s why he doesn’t like it, and i find it hard to believe he has any friends at all.
at the end of the day all you can do is play there and make up your own mind.

Topic: Golf Talk / Joining Keperra

Hi there, I have just moved to Brisbane from Darwin and am currently residing in the western suburbs. I have had a few rounds of golf at different courses to see which one I liked better and Keperra was nice and in my price range. Are there any forum members here who are current members of the club and can provide me with some info about the club? (The staff, the golf professional, competitions and things like that) Coming from Darwin, things are different up there. It is like another world with golf at times. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

hey mate, keperra is a great track.

were you a member at darwin gc? if so, i think you will find you have full provisional rights to wantima and redcliffe, which means no green fee’s.
i am pretty sure this is the case, i would check first though, i speak sh*t most of the time. :)

Topic: Golf Talk / Redcliffe Membership

No + the practice fairway there is a punch 8 iron in length so it must be limited swings he can teach.

trent,

mate, where do you get all this information from, are you a member of redcliffe?
first off, yes there is only one tee, but i have never played a round more than 4 – 4 1/2 hours, sometimes it feels like you have to jog to keep up too the group in front. i have been a member at other clubs that take over 5 hours for a round, and the fields have been 3/4 full.

there are 3 practice fairways at redcliffe, the largest one being down the back of the course, easy too get too in a buggy and no tools (like you trent) to annoy you while your trying too practice.

at the moment i think membership is full and they are only offering provisional membership, i think you have to wait till friday before you put your name down, the fields are almost always full for comps, but if you hang around you can usually get a spot.

redcliffe is a great track, it didn’t win club of the year in brisbane last year for nothing.

and last of all, coggs has played in state sides (with norman) and won state titles, and yes he can still break 80, but the big question is trent….can you?

i have one on my yes putter and it feels like nothing else, problem is they get dirty very quickly, and i am not sure how long they would last on a set of irons, might have to order some from the states and find out.

Topic: Golf Talk / Norman: In Two Minds at British Open

I think he choked. His record says it all. Leading at the start of play on the final round in 8 majors & winning 1. Leading 5 majors teeing off on the 64th hole & winning 1. His greatest wins have been when he is not really in contention (not leading & not expecting to win) & then he makes a charge during the final round shooting 6 or 8 under to win. Normans biggest problem, & he has suffered this all his career, is, knowing he’s got himself in a position to lose something he wants so badly – this is what causes him to choke/play poor golf/unable to exert pressure on others/make bad decisions etc.

golf an infinite journey

easy to say sitting behind a computer.

HE HAS DONE IT WHILE YOU PLAY OFF, WHAT 18.

WAKE UP TO YOURSELF

Topic: Golf Talk / Doing the Rocco

The qualifying for the PGA clubbies was from playing in their national PGA Club Pro tourny so I am told and finishing in the top 20 or so. I still believe it is a waste of time putting in these guys for such an event. I wonder how much money was put on them to win?

i bet the clubbies that qualified couldn’t give a sh#t whether anyone thinks they should be there or not, if you were a club pro and had the chance to play in a major, would you give the spot to someone who you think deserves it, or practice your guts out and try to make the most it, i know which one i would go for.

by the way, there is a little tournament at augusta every april that has a field that i would say 85% of the field has no chance of winning.

Topic: Golf Equipment / titleist pro-v1, where to buy?

Obviously I was going off their website. I would hope that if I emailed them with an order for 50 dozen I would get a better price. But that wasn’t my point.

I was just saying that freight was a killer on smaller orders, and that I could not find the $39 price listed anywhere. Nothing more, nothing less.

Obviously you need to order more than 1 or 2 boxes for the prices to come down.
the most i have ever paid for freight (DHL) is US$120, regardless of how many pills i order. i can’t see it being any more than this as you would then go over a grand, which would then be a waste of time due to the taxes.

Topic: Golf Equipment / titleist pro-v1, where to buy?

get onto edwin watts, they are on their site for US$46, but if you get enough of them at the moment i think the are US$39.99.

i would recommend you get a few of your mates and get a big order together, then the freight comes to next to nothing, just don’t go over a grand, as you will then have to pay duty tax.

I just did some mucking around on edwin watts, and basically it is $48 shipping for the first box, then $11-ish per dozen after that.

So the boxes work out at $60-something per dozen, which is a price that can be found locally anyhow.

EDIT: Oh, and even buying 50 dozen, the price was still $46, not $39.

not being rude, but are you actually contacting edwin-watts, or just going by their web site?
i think you will find if you e-mail them and get a decent order you will get very good prices on balls and freight.

Topic: Golf Talk / can some explain club champs to me?

We have 2 rounds of stokeplay. Top 8 qualify for matchplay, split into Club, “B” and “C” grades – all off the stick.

Here’s a poser. If a “B” grader finishes in the top 8 overall, should he play off in the “Club” championships, should he be given the option, or should he just play in the “B” grade championships because that’s where his handicap was when the comp started?

our club does the same, except the A and C graders play one day and then B graders a separate day.

it would be interesting to know if a B grader has ever qualified though.

the tour editions were good sticks, though i reckon the tour edition ball cost norman about 3 or 4 us masters, man they used to spin, kids these days have no idea how much the ball used to spin, too much in fact.

Topic: Golf Talk / From Scratch to Scratch in one year - possible?

hmm.. if by 11 months your good enough to be shooting consistently to about +3…..then u’ll get your scratch handicap. but i highly doubt it…

so yer… did u end up doing it?

03/07/2008 – Handicap 8 (8.3)
1/1/2009 – Handicap Goal 5 (5.4)

Progress
19/7/08 – 8.1
26/7/08 – 7.9

huh?
if your playing consistently to +3, you have gone way past scratch.

Topic: Golf Talk / Did Norman choke?

I watched Normans last two rounds in full at the Open.
IMHO he choked, the average score for the top 20 finishers was 73, Norman 4 shots worse.

golf an infinite journey

are you on any medication?

1. he is 53 years old for f#*k sake

2. he got married two weeks ago and is still on his honeymoon, i doubt very much he practised beforehand.

3. easy to say he choked from your lounge chair. i bet your the kind of player (if that’s what you would call yourself) that when you have the chance to win the friday arvo chook run you shit yourself.

don’t bag someone who has worked hard all their life, and don’t bag someone who would kick your arse in golf.

wake up too yourself.
