Ewan Porter changing directions again
Wow….defamatory much? Good on him for giving it another go. You might what to look up the definition of defamation, this certainly is not. Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! Nah, been a solicitor for 7 years, so think I have a fairly good idea that insinuating someone likes to indulge in cocaine could be viewed as conveying a defamatory imputation. Thankfully the offending comment has been deleted.
Can you defame someone of self-admitted poor character?

Jan had a great pair of tits and was very flexible. She was nice to look at. The man who hits at the ball rather than through it has no sense of rhythm. Secrets of the Master – The Best of Bobby Jones

C’mon Garbageman , that’s a pretty piss poor effort of a new avatar . Surely a troll with your years of experience can do better than that if you want to get one anywhere as good as mine. Give me a man with big hands big feet and no brains and I will make a golfer out of him . Quote, Walter Hagen.
Any tips on how to upload an animated gif as an avatar from an iPhone?

Doh, missed that one.
You’re not missing out on much. I wonder how many ISG’ers would have known who it was?
He did look nice with a Mardis Gras moustache though.

Bye, bye anchoring ban?
Madam – they do not have a committment to the integrity of the game with their current stance opposing the ruling bodies The US PGA tour relies on the public watching the product and thus attracting sponsors. If the public vote that they don’t want anchoring by their attendance and tv viewing the US PGA will quickly change its mind. Do note the European Tour has taken no public stance on the matter, this is a few spoilt US PGA players that are being protected becasue the majority of tour players do not want to offend. (somethink like it could have been my career threatened) Tiger was interviewed yesterday and said the putting stoke should be a swing. ie no anchoring It will be intersting to see if the respective bodies reach a compromise or get lawyered up. Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! YES It will be interesting to see the fall out, if any- Its a tricky situation as this thread fully shows. My point was the players are the ones deciding. Will players boycott their own tour over it? Do you think spectators are really going to care much about it? I did read Euro Tour was speculated to be siding with governing bodies, which would really make it an interesting topic. PS: Im still stuck on which side of the fence to stand. Bye, bye anchoring ban?
You know, this is a very subjective thing. Twenty-five to thirty years ago you look at anchoring, long putters, everybody has an opinion, the USGA approved it twice. Our view is—I think if there’s one thing that would prevail across a lot of players and a lot of board members is that it’s been around for a generation, and the game of golf has done quite well. So unless you have a compelling reason to change it, you shouldn’t, and the USGA has indicated there is no performance advantage to using anchoring. So on that basis, and given the fallout that occurs with amateurs and the fallout that occurs with players like Webb and Keegan and others who have grown up with the process, there are negatives. Our players from day one have sort of said—and we have players that want to see the ban, too, but again, it’s a subjective decision. But most players are saying, listen, without a significant upside and no competitive advantage, let’s don’t do it. I very much like what Finchem had to say. ... and I use a short putter. Have you only ever used a short putter? Relevance? It doesn’t matter whether I use a bladed wedge for putting.
Just getting the full picture for the background leading up to your opinion.

It would have to be the final nail in the coffin for the women’s event. That event has really struggled for corporate interest in recent years.

The mojo returns for Jason Day
Is he still painfully slow? When Webb Simpson is standing on the fairway waiting for you to get off the green, you know you are a “Crane”. I would like Day to win, just don’t force me to watch it.
Yeah, figured as much.
On another note, I can’t believe his ranking is as high as it is, given that a third place finish is his highest in 18 months.

Bye, bye anchoring ban?
Cabbage:
Well worded argument that. Saying it is no advantage is correct for those who are good putters. Why would someone use an anchored putter if it didn’t improve their performance? It is clearly obvious that anchoring significantly assists some people but not others. Now TTR, please, just once, give me a reason why anchoring should remain? What positive influence does it have on the game?
So, there’s no advantage for those who are young, fit and skilled golfers? Ok. So what’s the negative influence in that? Old folk, whose bodies no longer work as well as they once used to, might gain an advantage from an anchored putting technique. So what’s the negative influence in that? The positive influence is that it could possibly assist such players to keep playing the game much longer in their lives and still get some enjoyment. What other sports can people keep playing into their retirement? Lawn bowls is the only one that comes to mind. When a lawn bowler can no longer bend down to bowl, he/she is allowed to use an artificial aid. It gives them no advantage over someone who is fitter but it allows them to keep playing for longer. One day, cabbagehead, you’ll be old and frail (if no-one smacks you down first) and, instead of going to play golf with a bit of assistance, perhaps a cart, you’ll just sit in your easy chair and rot away. When old people lose their nerve later in life their handicap will go out a few shots. That is far better than allowing anchored putting for all and sundry.
Of course in their retirement, with all of that extra time, they could practice more.

Bye, bye anchoring ban?
The argument is about advantage – does anchoring give an advantage? The answer is yes it does because everything in the golf swing including putting is about plane.:-) The man who hits at the ball rather than through it has no sense of rhythm. Secrets of the Master – The Best of Bobby Jones There is no evidence that it does. Just the opinion of some based on circumstantial observations; ie. some golfers have moved to the long putter. Equally some golfers have tried it and not liked it. The R & A / GA have been clear that there is no evidence that anchoring gives an advantage. But so many still go on with their unsupported opinions. Then there are the ones who resort to direct insults. Just to be clear, the R & A / GA have have said that there is no evidence that anchoring gives an advantage. The rule change is about defining what they consider constitutes a ‘stroke’, not to address a supposed advantage. ... and I use a short putter.
Why would someone use an anchored putter if they didn’t putt better with it?

How dumb did Johnny Miller sound when sitting next to Tim Finchem today? There is still NO evidence that anchoring makes the putting stroke easier or provides an advantage. The USGA / R & A made it clear that that is the case when announcing the 2016 changes. I like what Finchem is saying. A voice of common sense in a sea of extreme arguments. Go the Finch!! Stick it to em mate. So many rhetorical questions there SMS. There’s no point in trying to have a sensible debate with you on this one. Your thread back at Ozgolf is testament to the fanatical resistance you have to long putters; to the point of abuse and personal insults.
Really? I think that you will find that the personal abuse in that thread is directed towards me. Any modding done suggests that.
Anyway, poor form to be discussing OZgolf here.

On another slight tangent – why is it seemingly ok to generalise about a race when it is positive, but not when it is negative? That grasshopper is one of life’s true contradictions …
Is it one of those “selective equality” things?

I don’t disagree with your comments about work ethic. You’re pretty much on the money.
Not sure about the build though. It is interesting that no woman has come through a la Serena Williams and been a superior athlete. You can’t say that it doesn’t matter in golf because Tiger Woods proved otherwise, however while the courses are set up so soft it keeps the short hitters in the race.
On another slight tangent – why is it seemingly ok to generalise about a race when it is positive, but not when it is negative?
